Joel James Wiener, 79, of Willmar, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 29, 2025, at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center in St. Cloud, MN.
Joel was born on November 14, 1945, in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, to Joseph and Florence (Fontaine) Wiener. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls in 1963.
On January 7, 1964, Joel enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving with honor until his discharge on January 5, 1968. Following his military service, Joel worked as a mechanical designer, applying his meticulous attention to detail and creative problem-solving to every project.
On October 12, 1969, he married the love of his life, Mary Borgen. Together they shared 56 wonderful years of marriage, raising three children—Kristi, Bradley, and Daniel—and building a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion.
Joel found joy in camping, fishing, and spending time with his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a loving grandfather and great-grandfather. His warmth, humor, and steady presence will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter Kristi Morales of Willmar; son Bradley (Jackie) Wiener of West Fargo; and son Daniel (Cindy) Wiener of Willmar; 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; sisters Mary Beich and Michelle Paulson; and several nieces and nephews.
Joel was preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Halvorson; his parents, Joseph and Florence Wiener; and Mary's parents, John and Elvina Borgen.
A Service of the Word will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN, with Father Bob Schreiner officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
