Joey Lee Johnson was born on November 20, 1975 in Thief River Falls, MN the daughter of Charlie and Lora (Laniel) Johnson. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee, MN. Joey attended school in Oklee, MN graduating with the class of 1994.
She attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, ND where she took classes in Meteorology. Joey then went to college in Minneapolis where she earned a degree in Massage Therapy.
On December 2, 2002, Joey was blessed with a son, Wakely Woodson Bryl and they made their home in Oklee. She worked at the Fosston Hospital as an Administrative Assistant and in 2006 made her home in Fosston. In 2011 Joey and Wakely moved to McIntosh, MN and in 2015, due to health issues, she left her job and moved into Oklee to be closer to family. Joey also worked at numerous other businesses in the area.
Joey had a passion for watching thunderstorms; the more powerful the storm the more excited she got.
Joey was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee, MN.
Survivors include her son, Wakely; parents, Charlie & Lora Johnson; brothers, Jeremiah "JJ", Charlie "JR", and Jarrod (Amanda) Johnson all of Oklee, MN and a brother from another mother & father, Jason Clark of Warren, MN; nieces & nephews, Jennifer, Ethan, Jordan & Jamie Johnson; aunts & uncles, Ruth Carriere, Alice (Arnie) Cekalla, Mike (Diane) Laniel, Ann Peterson, Dolores Grimm, Joan (Gary) Carpenter, Janel (Roger) Walter, Jim (Barb) Laniel, Betty (Milton) Leiran, Marlene (Jack) Brown, Mary Townsend, Brenda (Brent) Gillund; and many cousins, relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by an infant sister, Jody; grandparents, George "Ralph" & Pearl Laniel, Otto & Ethel Johnson; aunts & uncles, Judy Ophus, Paul Laniel, infant Joseph Laniel, John Laniel, Linus Carriere, Bob Hince, Ron Peterson and Darryl Grimm.
Joey Johnson of Oklee, MN passed away peacefully on Friday, April 6, 2018 at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND with her loving family at her side at the age of 42 years, 4 months and 17 days. May her memory be blessed.
