John Bornholdt, Thief River Falls, MN, age 95, died Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Oakland Park Communities, Thief River Falls.

Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, January 31, 2016 at the United Methodist Church in Thief River Falls, MN, with Pastor JJ Morgan officiating.

Interment will follow the memorial service at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.

John Emery Bornholdt was born September 16, 1920, to John Bornholdt Sr. and Emily (Larson) Bornholdt in Park River, ND.

He graduated from Park River High School.

He moved with his family to Thief River Falls, MN. He helped with the family farm and later became involved in the construction business.

John married Wilma Dorthea Ostenson, daughter of Bernt Tosten Ostenson and Ida (Miland) Ostenson on September 1, 1951, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Barrett, MN, and lived most of his married life in Rocksbury Township. He continued working with heavy equipment until his retirement. John and Wilma moved from their country home into Thief River Falls in April 2012.

John was known for his volunteer work including work at the United Methodist Church, Pioneer Village, and was presented with an Outstanding Senior Citizen award.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma, and two children: Heidi (Bornholdt) Hoks of Waconia, MN, and Scott Bornholdt of Thief River Falls, MN; grandchildren: Philip Hoks of Minneapolis, MN, and Peter Hoks of Oakdale, MN; several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and two sisters.
