John Flom, 81, Thief River Falls, MN passed away on Monday, November 2, 2015 at Villa St. Vincent, Crookston, MN. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at the Evangelical Free Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Pastor Bruce Fisher and Pastor Virgil Rasmussen officiating. Burial will be at St. Petri Cemetery, Grygla, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM on Friday, November 6, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Saturday at the Evangelical Free Church. John Delane Flom, Jr. was born on September 9, 1934 in Grgyla, MN the son of John and Matilda (Rude) Flom. He was baptized into the Christian faith. John attended country school and graduated from Goodridge High School with the class of 1952. While in school he was a great baseball player and also played football. On October 19, 1957, John was united in marriage to Sharon Diana Marjorie Teigland at the Grygla Gospel Tabernacle and they made their home at Aurora/Hoyt Lakes, MN. To this union five children were born, baby boy Flom who died shortly after birth, Laureen, DelRay, Loudeen, and Gwendolyn. John worked on the railroad from 1957 until 1962 when the family made their home in Thief River Falls, MN. He went to work at the Sjulson Turkey Farm in St. Hilaire, MN and worked there for a number of years. John worked at the the American Crystal Sugar Plant in Crookston, MN for two years and then worked the next eighteen years as a custodian at Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls. After retirement, John worked as a custodian at Pamida. In the early years, John was a very active member of the Assembly Of God Church in Thief River Falls. He served on the Church Board, Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, Royal Ranger Leader, and active in all other areas of the church. For the past almost thirty years, John has enjoyed attending the Evangelical Free Church in Thief River Falls where he helped take care of the boilers and was active with the Men's Prayer Breakfast. John was a kind, friendly, humble, God-loving, family oriented man. He enjoyed working with wood and loved to build stuff for his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. John also loved to mow his yard and blow snow not only at his home, but for other family and friends. He was very mechanical and could fix anything from cars, lawnmowers, snow blowers, and farm machinery whether he got paid or not. John enjoyed helping people out and did it with a kind word and a smile. Not only was he a friend to many, but was a great family man. When he got home from work he would spend time playing and building with his children and later on enjoyed doing the same with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Sharon of Thief River Falls; children, Laureen (Randy) Brotzman of Mitchell, NE, DelRay (Cami) Flom of Dickinson, ND, Loudeen Rensch of Billings, MO, and Gwendolyn Flom of Thief River Falls; grandchildren, Cassandra and Kendra Brotzman, Tiffany (Tim) Landaw, Tyler Flom, Trevor Flom, Amanda (Brian) McCool, Michael Rensch, Joseph Rensch, Tayler Flom; great-grandchildren, Payton, Addison and Bronson Landaw and Landon McCool; sister, Marie Slater of Cambridge, MN; and many other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by an infant son; parents; grandson, Travis Flom; and brother-in-law, Charles Slater.
