Obituary

John Grenier, 84, died surrounded by his family on Sunday, February 10, 2008 at his home in rural Red Lake Falls, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, February 15, 2008 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Father Antony Fernando presiding. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Red Lake Falls, MN.

Visitation will be 5-8 PM, Thursday, February 14, 2008 at Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls, MN with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Friday.

John Robert Grenier was born on May 22, 1923 on his family homestead in rural Red Lake Falls, MN to Eugene and Alyda (Laliberte) Grenier. He attended rural country school and Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston graduating in 1941. He went on to attend the University of Minnesota in St. Paul and graduated in 1950. John honorably served his country in the US Navy as a seaman first class from 1942 until 1946.

John was united in marriage to Lillian Claire Huot Grenier on August 3, 1955 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN. John worked in the soil and conservation service in Pennington and Beltrami Counties. He was the co-op manager at Grimm Alfalfa Association in Fargo, ND. John owned and operated Johns Seed Service in Fargo and then Red Lake Falls. He also worked at Cargill Inc. in Crookston, MN. He was an adult ag teacher for the Minnesota Department of Education. He also farmed his family farm in Louisville Township which became a century farm in 1991.

John enjoyed gardening and mowing. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the outdoors. He also enjoyed watching and feeding wildlife. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion in Red Lake Falls, and the Eagles in Crookston.

John is survived by his wife of 52 years Lillian, 8 children: Gary (Diane) Grenier, Broomfield, CO, Susan (Terry) Meehan, Varnville, SC, Gail (Chuck) Healy, Red Lake Falls, MN, Linda (Ken) Scott, Phoenix, AZ, Ray (Agnes) Grenier, Red Lake Falls, MN, Jeff (Tam) Grenier, Red Lake Falls, MN, Carol (Gary) Rose, Red Lake Falls, MN, Mary (Jim) Degiovanni, St. Joseph, MN, 15 grandchildren: Allie & Jessie Grenier, Carrie, Travis, & Erin Emslander, Tracy & Tom Healy, Rob & Steve Johnson, Whitney, Garrett, & Lauren Grenier, Hunter Grenier, Sam & Jackie Rose, 2 great grandchildren Jordan Grenier & Damien Evenson, 2 sisters: Anne G. St. Yves, Crookston, MN, Cecile Magnan, St. Paul, MN, and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Donald Grenier; sister Eileen Grenier, and son Stephen Grenier.
