John G. Hanson, 91, passed away under Hospice care surrounded by family members at his home in Torrance, California, where he had resided since 1943.
Funeral service will be 11 AM, Saturday, August 30, 2008 at Evangelical Free Church, Newfolden, MN with Pastor Marlin Bjornrud officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, Newfolden, MN.
Visitation will be 6 " 8 PM, Friday, August 29, 2008 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN with a 7 PM prayer service and for one hour prior to service at the church, Saturday.
John was born on September 28, 1916 near Newfolden, Minnesota. His early life was devoted to working with other siblings at the family farm near Newfolden. He also worked on his uncles farm near Stephen, MN before leaving for California to work at the Douglas Aircraft Company as a mechanic. He later entered the U.S. Army and was stationed in Seattle, Washington during World War II. When John returned to civilian life, he joined a Real Estate company in Torrance, CA where he was the top salesman. He later started his own Real Estate Company (Aladdin Realty) where he employed fifteen sales persons. John continued his Real Estate Company until his retirement in 2000.
John was a kind and gentle, hard-working, positive person wit a good sense of humor. He was an enjoyable person and it was a privilege to spend time with him. He was a member of the Sea Coast First Baptist Church at Redondo Beach, CA. His favorite activities included attending church, diligently keeping in touch with his family, watching sports, and doing yard work. His fruit trees and roses were his priority. His special project was the unique lighted water fountain that he designed and built in his backyard. That provided many pleasant evening hours of enjoyment.
John is survived by two sisters and six brothers: Beaulah (Merle) Bjornrud of Newfolden, MN, Clara (Burlin) Jacobson of Cottage Grove, MN, Clarence (Betty) Hanson of Fargo, ND, Ralph (DeVonna) Hanson of Buhl, MN, Earl (Janice) Hanson of Thief River Falls, MN, Bennie (Lilly) Hanson of Newfolden, MN, Floyd (DeEtta) Hanson of Newfolden, MN, Alfred (Dorothy) Hanson of Denver, CO as well as many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Hartvig and Tena Hanson; sister Adella of Newfolden, MN; 3 brothers Carl, Ernest and Knute Arne.
