John Larson, 51, of Crookston, MN formerly of Oklee, MN died on Sunday, February 14, 1999 at Riverview Nursing Home in Crookston. Arrangements with Petterson Funeral Home in Oklee, MN.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 18, 1999 at 11:00 AM in Salem Lutheran Church North of Oklee, MN with Reverend Robert Paulson Officiating. Burial will be held in the church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, at the Petterson Funeral Home in Oklee from 5 " 8 PM with a 7:00 prayer service and also one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
John Ardell Larson was born June 21, 1947 in Thief River Falls son of Alfred and Selma (Erickson) Larson. He was raised in the Oklee area and attended school there graduating from Oklee High School in 1965. He moved to Havre, MT and then joined the Army in 1966, he served 1 year and 7 months in the Republic of Vietnam as a Crew Chief Door Gunner in helicopters. John received several medals and badges for his service including Air Medal with Device, Aircraft Crewman Badge, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 bronze Service Stars and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He received an Honorable Discharge in October of 1968. John served in the Army National Guard in Crookston from October 1985 to June 1988.
John married Charlene Bergeron at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee, MN of August 29, 1970. He was a charter member of the Crookston VFW Drill Team and a lifetime member of the Crookston VFW. John loved to go fishing, especially with his kids. He also enjoyed listening to Twins and Vikings games, listening to country music and visiting with his friends.
He is survived by his son Adam T. Larson and daughter Michelle R. Larson both of Crookston, MN. Mother Selma Larson of Oklee, MN: brother Eddie Larson (Sharon) of Oklee, MN: sister Elaine Williamson of Missoula, MT: several nieces and nephews.
John is preceded in death by his father Alfred January of 1954, sisters Catheryn Steiger 1997 and Ann Wilde in 1987, also all of his grandparents precede him in death.
