Obituary

John Raymond Lessard, 76, of rural Oklee, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at his residence on Thursday, November 5, 2026.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, November 11, 2026 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee, MN with Father Bob Schreiner presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by the Red Lake County Honor Guard, Minnesota Army National Guard Honor Guard and the Patriot Guard Riders.

John was born on August 1, 1950, in Crookston, Minnesota, to Raymond Clifford and MaryAnn Louise (Nistler) Lessard. He was raised in the Oklee area, where he attended Oklee Public School and graduated with the Class of 1968. Following high school, he furthered his education through technical college.

John proudly served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. His military service was a source of great pride throughout his life, and he remained a steadfast supporter of fellow veterans through his involvement with organizations dedicated to serving those who had served.

On November 10, 1979, John was united in marriage to the love of his life, Ramona Fern Stoneouse, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work.

John spent much of his career as a truck driver and owner of Lessard Transport. Known for his strong work ethic, dependability, and determination, he took pride in providing for his family and serving his community.

A lifelong member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, John was baptized and confirmed in the parish and remained devoted to his faith throughout his life. He was active in the Patriot Guard, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Wounded Warrior Project, United Service Organizations (USO), and his church community.

John found great joy in riding his motorcycle, fishing, and hunting. More than anything, he cherished time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Whether sharing stories, offering advice, or simply enjoying a family gathering, John's love for his family was evident in everything he did.

John is survived by his children, Jesse (Amy) Lessard of Crookston, Christopher (Leslie) Lessard of Hawley, Gene (Darby) Trontvedt of Oklee, and Michelle (Craig) Magnell of East Grand Forks; ten grandchildren, Brea and Keegan Lessard, Braeden and Ella Lessard, Cody (Brianna) Trontvedt, Kaytlin (Dalton Anderson) Trontvedt, Tanner (Abigayl McWilliams), Ian Magnell, Brock Magnell, and Carter Magnell; two great-grandchildren, Grady Anderson and Brady Trontvedt; siblings, Annette (Dave) Dunning of Perham, Jim (Myrna) Lessard of Brooks, Elaine (Steve) Jorstad of Fargo, Barb (Greg) Guzek of Thief River Falls; sisters-in-law, Rebecca Lessard and Kathryn Enright; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and MaryAnn Lessard; his beloved wife, Ramona; his great-granddaughter, Gracie Anderson; and his brothers, Donald and Jerry Lessard.

John will be remembered for his patriotism, unwavering devotion to his family, dedication to his fellow veterans, and the kindness and friendship he extended to everyone he met. His legacy of service, faith, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
