John Oscar Olson, age 76, died Sunday, January 11th, 2015 at Centracare Health Hospital in Monticello, MN. Visitation will be held Friday, January 16th from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Prayer Service at Johnson Funeral Service in Oklee, MN. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 17th at Ebenezar Lutheran Church, rural Oklee. John Olson was born May 29, 1938 in Thief River Falls to Arne and Irene (Wallin) Olson. He was baptized and confirmed at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Trail, MN. He graduated from Oklee High School in 1956. He attended Concordia College and played football there for one season. He married Delores Knutson on January 20, 1964, at Nazareth Lutheran Church. John was employed as an ironworker for 40 years, and was a member of the Ironworkers Union, Local 512. His work brought him to many locations, but he always considered the Oklee community to be his home. He was known as "Big John" by many, and he loved to remind everyone that he was a full blooded Norwegian. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, visiting with friends and family, playing cards and reading. He was especially proud of his children and his grandchildren. John is survived by his children, Brenda (Craig) Perreault of Grand Rapids, MN, Tom (Jeanette) Olson of Minneapolis, MN, Sue (Dennis) Biliske of Grand Forks, ND, Christina (James) Torina of Clearwater, FL, and John (Kerry) Olson of St. Michael, MN; grandchildren Brent Perreault, Stacy Perreault, Jake Pryor, Chelsey Pryor, Zachary Olson, and Nicholas Olson; sisters Marion Olson of McIntosh, MN and Marlene Halseth of Blaine, MN; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Delores in 1976, grandson Jude Holland, son-in-law Jim Holland, parents Arne and Irene, step-mother Ethel Olson, twin sister Joan Battleson, and brothers Jim and Billy Olson.
