John Raymond "Ray" Rosten, 77, died Monday June 18, 2012 at Sanford Medical Center, Thief River Falls, MN. Funeral service will be 2 PM, Saturday June 23, 2012 at Salem Lutheran Church, Oklee, MN, with Reveren Margaret Jacobus officiating. Burial will be at Salem Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 PM, Friday June 22, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service, Oklee, MN with a 7 Pm prayer service and for one hour prior to the service at the church, Saturday. John Raymond "Ray" Rosten was born August 5, 1934 at Emardville Township, Red Lake County, near Plummer, MN son of the late John and Mabel (Bergum) Rosten. At a young age the family moved to a farm in Garnes Township, rural Plummer, MN, where he has lived and farmed his entire life except for 1 ½ years in Milwaukee WI, and ½ year in Minneapolis, MN, raising dairy cattle, sheep, pigs chickens and grain. Raymond was united in marriage to Irene Barsness May 26, 1956 at Zion Lutheran Church in Oklee, MN. The couple were Red Lake County Valley Farmer and Homemaker on 1996. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing and bowling, he liked to play cards, spending a little time at the casino, reading Ag Week but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Raymond was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church, served on the church board, and the school board. He is survived by his wife Irene on the farm, four children John Rosten of Plummer, MN, Steve Rosten of Plummer, MN, Sandra (Darrell) Tougas of Oklee, MN and Bradley (Amy) Rosten of NewPort Beach, CA; eight grandchildren Brandon (Frances) Tougas, Jennifer (Pat) O'Neill, Tyler Tougas, Delanie (Robert) Merrill, Heath (Sarah) Rosten, Jillian, Liam, and Ava Rosten; eight great-grandchildren Brady, Jacob, Olivia, Sophia, Micah, Peyton, Owen and Elianah. One brother-in-law Jerry Rodenbo of Duluth, MN, one aunt Leah Friebohl of Crookston, MN along with several nieces and nephews. Ray is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Joyce Carlson, Delores Rodenbo, Brother Paul Rosten, two infant brothers; sister-in-law Gladys Rosten and brother-in-law Burton Carlson.
