Obituary

John Henry Ulrich was born the son of Fred and Dora (Seeger) Ulrich on September 5, 1914 at the farm home where he lived most of his life in River Township of rural Red Lake Falls, MN.

John was baptized, confirmed and a long time member of St. John Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls. He graduated from elementary school of rural Red Lake Falls and worked on the family farm and the surrounding area until moving to California in the mid 1930s. While in California, John continued his education at the Mare Island Navy Yard graduating as a Journeyman Machinist.

On April 5, 1941 John married Eleanore Steitz at Trinity Lutheran in Richmond, California. They together celebrated 58 years of marriage. In 1946 John and Eleanore returned to his family farm in Red Lake County where they farmed small grains and dairy cattle. John and Eleanore raised two sons, Kenneth and David. He enjoyed farming and working as a machinist at American Crystal both in Crookston, MN and Drayton, ND. John also enjoyed music, singing in the church choir, playing his tenor banjo and traveling throughout the U.S. and Canada.

John was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, the Mens Club and choir, and was River Township Treasurer for many years. He was a resident of Valley Home in Thief River Falls since January of 1999 and at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine since April of 2002.

John is survived by his two sons, Kenneth (Linda K.) Ulrich of Red Lake Falls, MN and David (Linda G.) Ulrich of Red Lake Falls, MN; six grandchildren, Julie (Ben) Langton of Cottage Grove, MN, Craig (Kelly) Ulrich, of Shakopee, MN, Steven Ulrich of Fargo, ND, Robert Ulrich of Crookston, MN, Steve Conely of Red Lake Falls, MN, Mike Conely of Red Lake Falls, MN; one great grandchild, Kaden Ulrich; one sister Holly Baxter of Long Beach, CA; one brother, Art Ulrich of Rancho Mirage, CA; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Eleanore, April 8, 1999, his parents; three sisters, Marie, Dorothy, Minnie; and five brothers, Carl, Fritz, Ernest, William, and Alvin.
