Joseph Cullen, 77 of North Pole, AK formerly of Fosston, MN and Goodridge, MN passed away Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Oakland Park Communities in Thief River Falls, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 3:00 PM on Monday, March 21, 2022 at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Goodridge, MN with Father Adam Hamness presiding. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM with a 5:00 PM prayer service on Sunday, March 20, 2022 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service on Monday at St. Ann's Catholic Church. Burial will be at Poplar Grove Cemetery in the spring.

Joseph Francis Cullen was born on July 29, 1944, the son of Thomas William and Leola Margaret (Portwine) Cullen.  He attended school in Goodridge and helped on the family farm.

Joe was always a dreamer, he enjoyed working hard to achieve his goals and dreams.  He always had a big heart, helping many friends and acquaintances throughout the years.

He was united in marriage to Louise Baker on September 15, 1962.  With this unity they had four children – Richard, Mary, Mike, and Larry.  They lived on the Cullen homestead where they farmed, owned and operated the Cullen's Concrete Business, and also operated heavy equipment.

Several years later, Joe met Connie Brinkman, and daughter Shannon.  They moved to Alaska where they owned and operated a log home and sawmill business.  With this unity they had two children – Jenny and Casey.  Joe worked hard with his log building business, operating gold mines and running dozers.

Several years later, Joe met Rhonda Thompson from North Pole and with this unity they had Katie.

Later in his life he moved back to Minnesota and met Janet Lee and they enjoyed living a slower paced life visiting family and friends.

In his spare time, he especially enjoyed hunting caribou and moose.  He also enjoyed halibut and salmon fishing!  Alaska was the perfect place for his hobbies.

Wherever Joe decided to live to fulfill his dreams, he always found a Catholic church to attend.  It meant a lot to him.

Survivors include his children, Richard Cullen of North Pole, AK, Mary (Jon) Wilson of Goodridge, MN, Mike (Shirley) Cullen of Goodridge, MN, Larry (Val) Cullen of Bemidji, MN, and their mother Louise Cullen, Shannon Johnson of North Pole, AK, Casey (Linda) Cullen of North Pole, AK, and their mother Connie Brinkman, Katie Cullen of Salem, IL and her mother Rhonda Thompson; grandchildren, Kruse (Kelsey) Cullen, Krystle (Grant) Meyer, Cally (Mark) Delage, James (Jerilyn) Wilson, Cody (Lelit) Wilson, Adam (Louisa) Wilson, Joshua (Katie) Wilson, Luke Wilson, Mikie (Abbey) Cullen, Shawnie (Mike) Lorenz, Chevy (McKenzie) Cullen, Delray (Megan) Cullen, Madison Cullen, Molly Cullen, Heidi Johnson, Sadie Johnson, and Tucker Johnson; great-grandchildren, Ashlynn, Brylee, Kasjen, Jace, Ellie, Ava, Jamisen, Weston, Taylor, Callie, Shanella, Isaiah, Connor, Gabe, David, Jonathan, Dustin, Taylor, Sean, Jennifer, Cayden, Allie, Brinley, Kember, Korah; siblings, Agnes Kuznia, John (Louise) Cullen, Douglas Cullen, and Margaret Syverson, and many other relatives.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Jenny Cullen; parents, Thomas and Leola Cullen; grandparents, James and Margaret Cullen and James and Della Portwine; brothers, Tommy Cullen and Robert Cullen; sister, Lauretta Stucy; sisters-in-law, Virginia Cullen, Jan Cullen, and Marilyn Cullen; brothers-in-law, Warren Syverson, Edward Stucy, Ray Kuznia Sr., and nephew, Greg Syverson.
