Obituary

Joseph Jordan "Joe" Hanson 73 of Red Lake Falls, MN, died on Thursday June 23, 2016 after a long courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, June 27, 2016 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN. Burial will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Red Lake Falls, MN.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 PM with a 7 PM prayer service on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN. There will also be a visitation one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.

Joe was born in Crookston, MN on May 22, 1943, the son of John Owen and Annie Ann (Kuchan) Hanson. Joe was raised west of Red Lake Falls, MN and attended Washington Elementary School and Lafayette High School, graduating in 1961. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN.

On September 28, 1963, he was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Cassavant at the Catholic Church in Dorothy, MN. Their marriage was blessed by the births of their four children: Wayne, Randy, Pam, and Kevin.

Joe's favorite ways to relax included gardening, hunting, making numerous pounds of sausage for friends and family, and keeping busy in the yard. His favorite place to be was at the lake and fishing as much as possible. He also enjoyed his family and numerous friends in the community. Joe will be lovingly remembered and missed by his family and all that knew him.

Joe was a "Jack of all trades", working in many capacities throughout his career. These include: Brooks Cheese Factory, Brooks, MN; Ted's Dairy Service, Red Lake Falls, MN; Christianson Construction, Bemidji, MN; Plummer Co-op Creamery, Plummer, MN; Zimpel Construction, Plummer, MN; and Steve Olson Construction, Thief River Falls, MN.

He was a member of the Pathfinder's Snowmobile Club and the Sportsman's Club and was on Klipping Bros. trap-shoot team for many years.

Grateful to have shared in Joe's life are his beloved wife of 53 years, Shirley; their four children: Wayne (Sheila) Hanson of Red Lake Falls, MN, Randy Hanson of Park River, ND, Pamela Hanson Cournia (fiancé Mike Anderson) of East Grand Forks, MN, and Kevin (Trisha) Hanson of Warroad, MN. Grandchildren: Cody, Austen, Mason and Madison Hanson, Bridget, Katie, & Bobbi Hanson, Lindsay (Brett) Anderson, Caitlyn, Ian, and Johnathan Cournia, Colby and Haylee Hanson, and Elizabeth and Samantha Stiernagle. Great-grandchildren include: Landon Kraft, Ella, Cullen and Baby Anderson (due to arrive in Aug.), Leon Decker, and Hope Weibye. Brothers: Paul (Kathleen) Hanson, Crookston, MN and John (Pootsie) Hanson, Red Lake Falls, MN.

Brothers and Sisters-in-law: Ronnie and Maxine Cassavant, Thief River Falls, MN, Dee Dee Poole, Alexandria, MN, Paulette Hanson, Red Lake Falls, MN , Alan Cassavant, Red Lake Falls, MN, Orren Cassavant, Red Lake Falls, MN, Judy and Wayne Violette, Red Lake Falls, MN, and Kim and Jon Volker, Crookston, MN. Joe also leaves cousins and several nieces and nephews.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, John O. and Annie A., brother, Patrick Hanson, infant brother, father-in-law, Harry Cassavant, and mother-in-law, Angeline Boutain and brother-in-law Doug Poole.
