Joseph Horachek, 82, died on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at MeritCare Hospital, Northwest Campus in Thief River Falls, MN.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, February 23, 2009 at St. Anns Catholic Church in Goodridge, MN with Father Kleinwatcher presiding.
Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 22, 2009 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with a 7:00 P.M. Prayer Service on Sunday evening and also at the church for one hour prior to the service on Monday.
Joseph L. Horachek was born on July 5, 1926 to Anton and Mary (Bacilek) Horachek on the family farm in Highlanding Township, Pennington County, MN. He was raised in the Catholic faith and attended country school near Highlanding and a short time in Goodridge. Joe honorably served his country in the US Army.
Joe farmed all of his life. He worked together with his brothers as a team. They helped take care of the family after their father died at an early age. When times were tough, Joe also found work during the winter time logging near Little Falls and International Falls, MN.
Joe enjoyed reading and playing black jack at the casino. He liked to sing, play his harmonica, and listen to music. He often spent time with his family fishing. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and VFW clubs in Thief River Falls. He was a member of St. Annes Catholic Church in Goodridge, MN.
Joe is survived by three sisters: Mary VanLith, Warren, MN, Judith Lerol, Gilbert, MN, Karen (Eugene) Nelson, Thief River Falls, MN, several nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, brothers George, Tony, and Donald, 2 sisters Lydia Hammersley, and Anne Horachek.
