Obituary

Joseph Joe Neys, 88, of Brooks, died on Thursday, March 16, 2006 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, March 21, 2006 " 10:30 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Brooks, MN with Father Joe DeCrans, presiding. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Brooks.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Tuesday in the church.

Joseph Nicholas Neys was born on October 24, 1917 in Badger Township, Polk County, Minnesota, the son of Nicholas and Mary Ellen (Nash) Neys. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brooks, MN and attended Badger School.

He entered the United States Army on May 29, 1942 and was Honorably Discharged in 1946. During World War II, he served a year overseas in the infantry.

On October 28, 1948 Joseph was united in marriage to Lauria Desautel in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brooks, MN. The couple purchased a farm in Badger Township, Polk County, MN. He was a dairy farmer for many years and then raised beef cattle. He had his cattle on the farm until he was 81 years old. Joseph also worked at the American Crystal Beet Plant in Crookston, MN for 26 years. The couple moved into Brooks in 1998.

Joe loved spending time with his family, playing cards, fishing and enjoyed giving hay rides to his grandchildren.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Forresters.

Joseph is survived by his wife Lauria; five children: George (Marlene) Neys of Warren, MN, Anna (Gary) Davis of Golden, CO, Mary (Harry) Larson of Hibbing, MN, Carol Neys of Crookston, MN and Bonita (Jerry) Shaver of McIntosh, MN; son-in-law, Bill DeCrans; 13 grandchildren: Renae (fianc Jason Bookman) of Anchorage, AK and Lori Neys, of St. Paul, MN, Patrick and Amber Davis of Golden, CO, Nissa, Elizabeth and Timothy Larson of Hibbing, MN, Angela DeCrans of Moorhead, MN, Nicholas DeCrans of Bismarck, ND, Alex, Jennie, Adam and Cole Shaver of McIntosh, MN; 1 great grandchild Malia of Hibbing, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son Joseph Jr.; a daughter, Kathy DeCrans; a granddaughter, Helen DeCrans; and one brother, Francis Frank Neys.
