Obituary

Josephine Teggatz died on Monday, April 14, 2014 at Sleepy Eye Care Center, in Sleepy Eye, MN, surrounded by her family at the age of 91 years. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, April 21, 2014 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Mentor, MN with Father Joe Richards presiding. Burial will follow at St. Lawrence Cemetery, Mentor, MN. Visitation will be held from 5-8 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service on Sunday, April 20, 2014 at Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Josephine Theresa Schindler was born January 6, 1923 on the family farm in Red Lake Falls Township, the daughter of John and Mary (Schmitz) Schindler. Josephine attended country school in Red Lake Township. Following high school in Red Lake Falls Township, she completed Teachers Training in Crookston MN. She then taught country school near Marcoux Corner, MN until 1945. On July 24, 1945 Josephine was united in marriage to Eugene Teggatz in Red Lake Falls. The couple worked on their farm near Mentor, MN, while raising their family. She started teaching again in 1965 in Terrebonne, MN until the school was closed. She continued her education at Bemidji State University earning her Bachelor's Degree in Education. Josephine then taught Kindergarten, 1st Grade and Special Education until 1979. At that time she retired from teaching and she and Gene started traveling spending winters in Arkansas from 1979 to 1988. When health and age prevented them from traveling they moved to New Ulm, MN. After her husband's death, Josephine continued living in New Ulm until she moved to the Sleepy Eye Care Center in Sleepy Eye, MN, in 2011. Josephine enjoyed making trips up North to visit her many relatives. In the Fall she enjoyed collecting flower seeds for her flower gardening. She sewed many sweatshirts and sweat suits, of many colors, for all of her grandchildren!! Baking cookies and taking "short orders" in "Grandma's Restaurant" was one of her favorite things. She also enjoyed playing cards with Eugene and her grandchildren. Josephine enjoyed tutoring (playing school) with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Josephine is survived by 5 children: Beverly Bean, New Ulm, MN; Nancy Taylor, North Port, FL; Elaine (Steve) Hudok, Anoka, MN; Carolyn (John) Meyer, New Ulm, MN; Earl (Susan) Teggatz, Oak Park, IL. 22 grandchildren: Robert, Stephanie, Anthony (Amanda); Mark (Lisa), Eric (Jen), Paul; Nancy Melissa, Russell (Belinda), Christopher (Tanya), Zachary (Andrea), Mary (Brian); Michelle (Mike), Michael, Daniel; Benjamin, Kate, Kristen, Douglas, Andrew (Kristin); Tyler (Amy), Abigail (Dylan), Nikolas. 11 Great-Grand children: Lauren, Courtland, Tori; Anya, Lyla; Lucas; Victoria; Caleb; Cameron, Forrest; Zoey. 2 Great-Great Grandchildren: Amiyah, Ariana. Brothers and sister: Mary Ann Schafer, Vernon (Mary), Theodore, Valentine (Delores) Schindler. Sisters-in-law: Patricia Schindler, Lyda, Dorothy, Lily and Bernice Teggatz. She is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene on February 7, 2001, 2 sons: John and infant son Eugene Michael; Son-in-law Bobby Don Bean; Grandchildren: Theresa, Joseph: Great Grandchild Liam; her parents; Siblings: Edward, Louise, Louis, Veronica, Raymond, Bernard and Eugene.
