Joyce Elaine Matheny of Red Lake Falls, MN, passed away on June 20, 2019 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND, at the age of 72.
A private family service will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN, with interment to follow.
Joyce Elaine Thode was born October 7, 1946 in St. Vincent Hospital, Crookston, MN, the daughter of Henry and Clarice (LaCoursiere) Thode. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Bethany Lutheran Church, Red Lake Falls. She attended school in Red Lake Falls and graduated from Red Lake Falls High School in 1964.
On May 23, 1969, Joyce was united in marriage to Marlan Matheny in Crookston, MN. The couple lived in Red Lake Falls, where they owned Trail Master, T&M Products and the Traveler Motel in Mahnomen, MN. Joyce also worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone, Crookston, for 10 years.
She held membership with the American Legion Auxiliary.
Joyce is survived by a son Kim (Lisa) Matheny, Crookston, MN; 2 grandchildren, Dustin Ransdorf and Colton Matheny both Crookston, MN; sisters, Arlene (Wayne) Marcotte, Jacksonville, AR and Carol (Duane) Boucher, Brooks, MN along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Marlan on April 1, 1993; father Henry in 1989 and mother Clarice in 1980; and brothers, David and Roger Thode.
