Joyce Nowacki, 78, of Hallock, MN, died peacefully in the Lord's arms surrounded by family at Sanford Palliative Care Unit in Fargo, ND, on Thursday, March 29, 2012. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 2, 2012 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hallock, MN with Father Bill DeCrans presiding. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Hallock, MN. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM with a 9:00 AM rosary on Monday, April 2, 2012 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Joyce Ardell Hanson was born March 6, 1934, in Kennedy Township, MN the daughter of Elof and Cora (Skjordahl) Hanson. She attended school in Hallock. Joyce began working at 12 years of age at the Hallock Nursing Home before and after school. During her life she had many jobs including babysitting and waitressing in addition to raising a family of 6 children, culminating in owning and managing the Gateway Motel. Joyce married Hilary John Nowacki on January 23, 1952, in Hallock. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hallock for 60 years. Joyce was a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Fraternal Order of the Eagle's Auxiliary, a life member of the VFW Auxiliary and was active in both the Kennedy and Hallock Senior Centers. She was an avid reader, enjoyed playing cards, bingo, doing crossword puzzles, baking treats for people, and collecting angels. After a brief hospitalization and illness, Joyce moved to Rosewood on Broadway in Fargo in May of 2011. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hilary in 1991; a son, Timothy in 1999; brothers, Vernon, Sonny, and an infant; sister, Carol Craig, brothers-in-law, Roy Johnson, Herbert Johnson, and Robert "Bob" Bodden. She is survived by her daughters, Rebecca (Laurence) Meyer Charlet, Fargo, Catherine (David) Holm, Oconomowoc, WI, and Beverly (Daniel) Arrington, Gainesville, FL; sons, Hilary (Cathy) Nowacki, Jr., Warroad, MN, and Mark (Eden) Nowacki, Sun Prairie, WI; 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; sisters, Audrey Johnson, Myrna King, Marlys Bodden, and Sandra Anderson; sister-in-law, Sonja Buckwald and Lucille Chale; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family respectively requests donations made in her name to St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Hallock, the Hallock Senior Center or Hospice of the Red River Valley.
