Judith Fisher, 55, died Friday, August 13, 2010 at Edgewood, her home in Thief River Falls.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 AM, Monday, August 16, 2010 at St. Bernards Catholic Church, Thief River Falls, MN with Father Rick Lambert presiding. Burial will be in St. Bernards Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.
Visitation hours will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Sunday, August 15, 2010 at the Johnson-Green Funeral Home, with a 7:00 PM Prayer service and Rosary to follow. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to Mass on Monday.
Judith Mary Fisher was born on April 10, 1955 in Thief River Falls, MN, the daughter of Ed and Louise Fisher. She was baptized in the Catholic faith in Thief River Falls. Judith attended Washington Elementary for kindergarten and Special Ed. Classes at Knox Elementary until she was 18. She went to Falls Day Activity Center (DAC) where she did piece work and was involved in many activities. She did cleaning jobs at Northland College and in the community. She retired in October 2007 after 33 years.
Judith lived with her parents most of her life and she lived independently for some time She lived at Brentwood and Edgewood Homes in her last 9 years. She participated in the Special Olympics, winning gold medals in bowling at both the local and state levels. She was a devoted Elvis fan, loved music, dancing, latch hook and painting. She loved traveling, visiting family in Hawaii, California and North Carolina. Judith treasured her trip to Graceland. She was close to family and had many friends in her years at the DAC.
Judith was a remarkable woman who lived a full and rich life, despite her disability of Down Syndrome. She was a loving, devoted daughter, sister and friend. She was passionate about life, adventurous, and inspired love and happiness in those who knew her and who assisted in her care.
Judith is survived by her 8 siblings: James (Janet) Fisher, Thief River Falls, MN; Mary Lou (Harold) Jasken, Alexandria, MN; Gene (Sheila Kendro) Fischer, San Diego, CA; Veronica Fisher, Asheville, NC; Marty Fisher, Minneapolis, MN; Ann Marie Fisher, Redwood City, CA; Virginia (John Canfield) Fisher, Comptche, CA; Jerry, her twin brother, (Peg Edel) Fisher, San Diego, CA; and her 10 nieces and nephews: Steve Fisher, Molly Dahlin, Patrick Fisher, Michael Fisher, Jane Whalin, Chris Jasken, Ron Jasken, Julie Jenson, Tiffany Anne Fisher-Love and Shannon Fischer-Kendro.
Preceded in death by parents, Ed and Louise Fisher, sister Florence Ann and brother Cyril, sister-in-law Beverly Fisher and brother-in-law Arthur Love.
In lieu of flowers or gifts the family requests donations be made to the Falls DAC.
