Judy Mostrom, 65 of Thief River Falls, MN died on Thursday, November 25, 2010 at Sanford Hospital in Thief River Falls, MN.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Terri Cuppett and Rev. Robert Dahlen officiating. Burial will be held at the Little Oak Cemetery, rural Trail, MN.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Monday, November 29 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 9:30 PM until 10:30 AM at the church.
Judy Darlene VanDerVeen was born on April 29, 1945 in Glenwood, MN the third of six children born to Martin and June (Van Westerhuizen) VanDerVeen. She was baptized and confirmed at the Sedan Presbyterian Church in Sedan, MN. Judy attended elementary school in Sedan and graduated from high school in Glenwood, MN. She then attended Willmar Community College and graduated in 1965 with a secretarial degree.
While working at Abbott Hospital in Minneapolis, MN, Judy met her future husband, Harlan Mostrom. They were married on June 3, 1967 in Brooten, MN and then made their home in Thief River Falls, MN. To this union two children were born, Lorie and Scott.
Judy went to work as a bookkeeper for Consumers Co-op Land O Lakes for three years, she worked at Arctic Cat for 11 years, Gibson Greetings for several years; and has worked for Tri-Valley for the last 26 years, retiring in 2009.
Her favorite thing was to spend time with her grandchildren. Hobbies included reading, crocheting, bird feeding and bird watching. Every summer she enjoyed going to Shell Lake on vacation. Judy was a member of St. Pauli Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for 11 years. She was also Treasurer of Smiley Township Board for 12 years.
Survivors include her loving husband of 43 years, Harlan of Thief River Falls; daughter, Loretta Marie Lorie ( Dellas) Herbel of Fargo/Fertile, MN; son, Scott Allan (Kris) Mostrom of Thief River Falls; five grandchildren, Kassidy and Kaden Mostrom, Micah, Macrina and Anastasia Herbel; brothers and sisters, Carole (Stan) Evans of Columbia, MO, Daniel (Shari) VanDerVeen of Fairbault, MN, Marlin (Concepcion) VanDerVeen of Florida, and Cyndia (Robert) Schneck of Hillsboro, ND; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Martin and June; infant sister, Donna; maternal grandparents, Jost and Anna Van Westerhuizen; and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Arend VanDerVeen.
