June Barrow, 96, of Thief River Falls, MN, died on Friday, August 28, 2015 at Thief River Care Center, Thief River Falls, MN. Funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN, with Reverend Mark Helgeland officiating. Burial will be at Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Monday, August 31, 2015 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. June Violet Windahl was born December 23, 1918, the daughter of Arthur Henry and Olga Amanda (Lind) Windahl. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Marsh Grove Township, where she grew up and attended school at Fairview Country School. She graduated in 1936 from Newfolden High School. She worked at Ellingson Funeral Home, Warren, MN for 1 year as a receptionist. She then moved to the Twin Cities and worked as a nanny. From the Twin Cities, June moved to live with her Aunt Hazel in Chicago, IL where she met and married Glen Lindahl. To this union a son, Gene was born in 1942. June was very musical and loved singing. Two of June's favorite things to do were to watch Lawrence Welk and sing with her sisters. While living in Chicago, June enjoyed a dance with Lawrence Welk and was asked to sing with his band. In 1945, she returned to live in Newfolden and helped her mother at the restaurant in Viking, MN. In 1946, June was united in marriage to Omer Aldean Sorenson at Newfolden. The couple lived at Viking and she continued to work at the restaurant. To this union six children were born, Jerome, Jon, Clyde, Lana, Jay and Faye. June enjoyed her time as a homemaker/seamstress and also did the bookkeeping for the farm, trucking, and gas station. In 1964, June began working at J.C. Penny in Thief River Falls and retired in 1984. Omer died November 10, 1969. On June 23, 1973, June married Donald Swanson of Warren, MN and the couple made their home in Thief River Falls. They enjoyed traveling all over the United States, dancing two or three nights each week and gardening. The couple was married for about eight years when Donald passed away. On August 27, 1983, June married Robert Barrow at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. After her retirement in 1984, she and Bob enjoyed gardening, dancing and traveling all over North America. Bob passed away on October 20, 2000. June was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls and enjoyed being the unofficial greeter for many years. She enjoyed morning coffee with Mel Burrell with 4:00 PM dinner followed by dancing several nights per week. Survivors include children, Jerome (Lori) Sorenson of Thief River Falls, Jon (Kathy) Sorenson of Prior Lake, MN, Clyde (Barbara) Sorenson of Thief River Falls, Lana (Jim) Nelson of Thief River Falls, MN, Jay Sorenson of Hawley, MN and Faye (Jim) Bauer, Rugby, ND, Gene (Sandy) Lindahl of Morristown, MN; grandchildren, Michelle (Jason) Kempert, Dana (Bethany) Sorenson, Brent (Lisa) Sorenson, Carla (Troy) Schoenberg, Cami (Derek) Dahlstrom, Derek (Heidi) Sorenson, Troy Nelson, Misty Nelson, Kimberly Nelson, Jacob (Helen) Gillette, Jerrica (Justin) Feragen, Lisa (Ryan) Hartje and Nicole Bauer; 23 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Eloise Deihl of Moorhead, MN and Phyllis (James) Gander of Grand Forks, ND; a brother, Norland (Helen) Windahl of Deer River, MN; and many other relatives and friends. June is preceded in death by husbands, Omer Sorenson, Glen Lindahl, Donald Swanson and Robert Barrow; parents; sister, Dolores Bakke-Mesick; brothers-in-law, Don Deihl, Floyd Bakke and Claude Mesick.
