June Helen Johnson, age 93 of Goodridge, MN passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2013 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, December 30, 2013 at Ekelund Lutheran Church near Goodridge, MN with Rev. Vicki Saude-Worthington officiating. Burial will follow at the Ekelund Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM with a 4:00 PM prayer service on Sunday, December 29, 2013 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM on Monday at Ekelund Lutheran Church. June Helen Marquis was born June 6, 1920 in Siren, WI, the daughter of Herbert and Ada (Van de Linder) Marquis. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith. The family moved to the Goodridge, MN area in about 1925 and June attended District 56 School, then one year in Thief River Falls. Then she and her sister, Thelma graduated from Central High School in Minneapolis. They worked at White Castle in Minneapolis. During the war June moved to Pontiac, MI and lived with her sister, Carolyn Nelson. In Pontiac June worked for "Duck Boat" Factory. In 1952 she returned to Thief River Falls and took nurses training and worked at the hospital for a couple of years. June was united in marriage to Bennie Johnson, a farmer from Highlanding, in the fall of 1954. The couple made their home on the family farm in Highlanding Township. June enjoyed making quilts at the Ekelund Lutheran Church. She worked hard and truly enjoyed her life with her family on the farm. June is survived by one son, Mike (Kathy) Boyer, Andover, MN; one grandchild, Gina Wyandt, East Bethel, MN; one great grandson, Brody; one brother, Earl (Angie) Marquis of Grygla, MN; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bennie in 1994; sisters and brothers, Evelyn, Carolyn, Dorothy, Thelma, RozAnn, Donald and Dick.
