Junis Tanner, 92, died peacefully Monday, December 7, 2009 at Thief River Care Center, Thief River Falls, MN with her family by her side.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Pastor Irvin Schmitke officiating. Burial will be at First Lutheran Cemetery in Middle River, MN.
Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, December 11, 2009 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with a 7:00 P.M. Prayer Service on Friday evening. Visitation will also be one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
Junis Lorine (Sorter) Tanner was born on July 22, 1917 in Cedar Township in Marshall County, MN to Jens and Emma (Paetznik) Sorter. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith and attended school at the Koepp Country School.
Junis was united in marriage to Floyd Wellington Tanner on December 6, 1939 in Holt, MN. They lived in several places in the Middle River area before moving back to her birthplace homestead in the early 1940s. She resided there until July of 2002 when she moved to the Thief River Care Center.
Her husband Floyd passed away November 12, 1979. During the winters of 1990 " 1994, Junis and her friend, Newell Dunham spent winters at Cordes Lake, Arizona.
Junis was a member of Immanuel Lutheran (Ringbo) Church of Holt and active in Ladies Aide. She was also a member of Holt Keenagers.
Junis was a proud homemaker and mother. She enjoyed quilt making, gardening, flowers, card games and puzzles. She was known for delivering eggs, milk and cream to the local community. One of her favorite activities was cutting pictures out of the paper and making scrapbooks.
Junis is survived by children, Archie (Sally) Tanner of Glyndon, MN, Betty (Marvin) Moen of Thief River Falls, MN, Gary (Opal) Tanner of Middle River, MN, Sally (Jim) Erickson of Lake Bronson, MN, and Ruby Tanner of Roseau, MN; grandchildren, Kevin (Hyonmi) Tanner, Melisa (Brian) Rames, Amy (Jason) Caruso, Keith (Lona) Moen, Cory Moen, Kyle Tanner, Kim (Rodger) Haugtvedt, Deric (Brenda) Erickson, Jenica (Jon) Swenson, Jeffery Tanner; 14 Great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mabel Sorter and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; parents; brothers, Art, Albert Lanny , George Walter and John Sorter, stepfather, Ole Brenna; stepbrothers, Ole Jr., Calmer, Sanford, Morris and Tony Brenna; half-brother, Kermit Brenna and two grandchildren.
