Karen Cecile Nelson, 72, of Thief River Falls, MN died Thursday, March 26, 2009 at her residence.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:30 P.M on Tuesday, March 31, 2009 at St. Bernards Catholic Church, Thief River Falls, MN. with Monsignor Timothy McGee presiding.

Visitation will be 5 " 8 PM on Monday, March 30, 2009 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN with a 7 PM prayer service. Visitation will also be held one hour the service at the church.

Interment will be in St. Bernards Catholic Cemetery.

Karen Cecile Horachek was born January 8, 1937 at Highlanding Township, the daughter of Anton and Mary (Bacilek) Horachek. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Anns Catholic Church, Goodridge, MN. She attended Goodridge High School.

On December 26, 1953, Karen was united in marriage to Eugene Nelson. She was a housewife, but also held jobs with Peterson Biddick and Arctic Cat, both in Thief River Falls, and also worked at Marvin Windows, Warroad, MN.

Karen was a member of St. Bernards Church and was active with the Boy and Girl Scouts. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, baking, canning, reading, fishing and visiting with friends.

She is survived by husband Eugene Pal Nelson, Thief River Falls, MN; children, Renae (Leslie) Nelson-Olson, Loveland, CO and Mark E. Nelson, Belgrade, MT; grandchildren, Ryan (Barb) Olson, Boise, ID and Derek Olson, Denver, CO; 1 great grandchild, Matthew Olson, Boise, ID; brothers and sisters, Judith (Horachek) Lerol, Gilbert, MN and Mary (Horachek) Van Lith, Warren, MN as well as any nieces, nephews and friends.

Karen is preceded in death by parents, Anton and Mary; sisters, Anne and Lydia and an infant sister, Mary; brothers, George, Anton, Joseph and Donald.
