Karyl Larson, 86, died on Monday, October 26, 2009 at Meritcare Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, October 30, 2009 at United Lutheran Church in Gatzke, MN with Rev. Katie Koch officiating. Burial will follow at Moose River Cemetery in Gatzke, MN.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Friday at the church.

Karyl Madelynne Grondahl was born December 28, 1922 at home, Big Grass Township, Beltrami County, Minnesota, the daughter of Henry and Bertha (Modin) Grondahl. She was baptized in Middle River, Minnesota and confirmed in Northwood Church, Beltrami Co., MN. Karyl attended Northwood School, Beltrami County, for eight years and attended Goodridge High School, Goodridge, MN for four years graduating in May 1941 as Valedictorian.

Upon graduation, she and Lorraine Peterson spent the summer as roommates working in Minneapolis, MN. In the fall of 1941, she attended Normal Teachers Training, Thief River Falls, MN, graduating in May 1942. Following graduation she taught school in District 80 and District 82N, north of Gatzke, MN.

Karyl was united in marriage to Glenn Bud Larson on December 9, 1944. They spent their time farming with cattle and grain farming. She taught for a time in Grygla and Gatzke, MN.

She enjoyed teaching music to children. Karyl also enjoyed supporting her children and grandchildren in all activities and was also involved in various community activities. On May 21, 1984 Bud passed away. She spent the rest of her years on the farm until she became ill and moved to Fargo, ND because of her health problems.

Karyl is survived by son, Lynn Larson of Minneapolis, MN, daughter, Susan Larson, West Fargo, ND, and son, Randy Larson, Gatzke, MN; Grandchildren, Darrin and Emily (Lynch) Larson of Ham Lake, MN, Geraldine Larson of Coon Rapids, MN, Dustin Larson, Miami, FL, Douglas Larson and Special Friend Stacey Hall, Andover, MN, Derrick Larson, Andover, MN, Geoffrey Larson and Fiancee Steph Palm, Grand Forks, ND, Justyne Larson, Gatzke, MN, Dayle Larson, Gatzke, MN, Kimberly Kanarr, Fargo, ND, Brian Kanarr, West Fargo, ND, Adam Kanarr and Fiancee Naomi Sip, Fargo, ND; Great-grandchildren, Bennett, Madeline, Christian, Aidan, Sophia, Anders, Drew, Darnell, Chase, Madison, Trey, Teresa and Ronnie; Brothers and Sisters, Ardell Roen, Grygla, MN, Kenneth (Maxine) Grondahl, Vero Beach, FL; several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by Husband, Glenn Bud , Son, Lowell, Sisters, Bernice Grondahl, Bonnie Grondahl and Betty McMillin; Parents, Henry and Bertha (Modin) Grondahl; Grandparents, Magnus and Helen (Grondvold) Grondahl and Erik and Brita (Anderson) Modin.
