Kathleen Rae "Kicky" (Wicks) Erickson, 74, of Solway, MN died October 28 th , 2021, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND due to a month-long fight with COVID-19, Pneumonia, and associated complications.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 13 th , 2021, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church; Located at 301 Governor Street, Oklee, MN. Visitation will begin at 9:00am and the Funeral Service will follow at 11:00am. We invite everyone to join us afterward for a luncheon in her honor.
She was born June 14 th (Flag Day) , 1947 in Crookston, Minnesota, to Bernyce (Asselin) and Raymond Wicks. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Oklee. She attended school there in Oklee, even if it meant her Uncle Tom needed to attach his horses to a sleigh to get her there in the winter. She Graduated from High School a proud Bobcat in 1965. After Graduating she took a trip with her friend Louise, who convinced her the grass was greener in Arizona, they worked in a nursing home near Pheonix. Discovering there was little grass, and it was not greener she moved home a few months Later. She then Attended Cosmetology School in Thief River Falls. After traveling to Minneapolis and passing the test she was recognized by the State Board of Cosmetology. She worked at Peggys Beauty Shop for a few years and at one point opened her own beauty shop in McIntosh, MN that she ran for several years until 1974.
She married Lyle Erickson in January of 1975 in Bemidji, MN and they made their home in Nymore, MN and after a couple of years moved to Solway. She then dedicated herself to being a home maker, Led the Solway Elementary PTA and continued doing hair out of her home and provided daycare for many local people in Solway during the early 1980's.
In 1986 she was divorced from Lyle and after a brief period apart they reunited.
In the mid-1980s she began working for Bemidji School district 31 in food service. She retired after 33 years but continued working whenever they needed her. She worked at several locations such as the high school, kindergarten Center, J.W. Smith. In addition to the school year, she often volunteered to work in the summer foodservice program offered by the district at the Bemidji Middle School too, serving the community needs.
In her younger years she loved to dance and traveled with friends wherever necessary to shake her tail Feathers on the weekends. She loved reading, especially true stories that could tug at her heart strings and scratch her sentimental itch. She also really enjoyed spending time laughing with family and friends (granddaughter Abby until wee hours of the morning), summer outings, cooking/baking, watching her granddaughter in gymnastics and dance, seeing her grandson play baseball, playing bean bag, cards and other games, vacations, trips to the casino, meeting friends for coffee and was an avid conversationalist.
Kicky is survived by Lyle Erickson of Solway, MN, her three sons Todd (Sheila) Erickson of Lake Havasu, AZ, Shawn Erickson of Plymouth, MN, Chris (Candice) Erickson of Corona, CA, her grandchildren Brandi (Barclay) Moon, Alyssa (Justin) Erickson, Abigail McGovern-Erickson, Hunter Erickson, Chloe Erickson and her great grandchildren Dayton and Sawyer Moon, grandchildren through marriage, Sheila's son Cody (Kaytlin) Hall, Neil (Serena)Hall, Shiree (Denver) Colin their children Talon, Castiel, Everlyn and Thorin, her brother Mike Wicks of Oklee, MN, his daughter Danielle (Billy) Paradis their children Seth and Mikayla and daughter Charity (Jason) DePinto their children Cora and Joseph. Her brother Jeff Wicks of Fargo, ND, his children Benjamin (Angie)Wicks, April, Georgi, Adam Wicks their children. Lyle's brothers and sisters their spouses her many nieces and nephews their children and grandchildren who are much too numerous to list, Countless others that were special to her including but certainly not limited to Andrea, Jessica, and Winston "Jones Brown" Vogal. Also, her many close friends and coworkers in no specific order that include Bev Anderson, Kathy Gilbertson, Vione Ellingson, Margaret Johnson, Linda Peck, Margene Parkos, Marlene Web, Rhonda Thompson, Vie Hendricks, Anette Nyland, Terri Graves, Pat Welty and many others. Apologies for those not listed here, there is an endless list of people that were special to her, any exclusion was not intentional.
She will be remembered for the sparkle in her baby blue eyes, bright smile that always greeted you, animated conversation, many amazing meals, her contagious laughter, selflessness, devotion to children and daily prayers for everyone she loved and even those she did not.
