Kathryn Olson Thief River Falls, MN age 59 died peacefully of natural causes at her residence on Thursday, April 3, 2014. A Celebration Of Life Service for Kathryn Olson will be held at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Burial will be held at the family plot at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls. Kathryn Denise Olson was born on February 4, 1955 in Thief River Falls, MN the daughter of Gordon and Wilma (Zavoral) Olson. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. Kathy attended Knox Elementary, Franklin Junior High, and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1973. She attended the AVTI in Thief River Falls and graduated with a Medical Secretarial Degree. Kathy went to Arctic Cat where she worked in the Human Resources Department for several years. In 1982, she went back to college at Bemidji State University where Kathy earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. While at BSU, Kathy roomed with her sister, Jane and they had many fun college adventures! Kathy returned to Thief River Falls and taught business classes for many years at Northland Community & Technical College, retiring in 2011. She enjoyed sewing, reading books & magazines, and loved & adored her nieces and nephews. She had a knack of coming over at bed time to visit them with a bag of candy and a game of tickle. She was the best second mom! Kathy loved to travel; she has been to Hawaii, Glacier National Park, New Orleans, San Francisco, and Seattle as well as many other places. Kathy had a wicked sense of humor; she had that ability to weave a story that would make everyone listening, laugh! She had the uncanny ability to take an embarrassing or uncomfortable situation and turn it into a hysterical event. Throughout her life, Kathy was very involved with music and theatre. She played the violin, sang, and had numerous roles on stage with the TRF Area Community Theatre. She also costumed many productions and volunteered in various ways backstage. Survivors include her siblings, Scott (Margaret) Olson of Thief River Falls, Bryan (Polly) Olson of Frazee, MN, and Jane (Murray) Anderson of Thief River Falls; nieces & nephews, Cayler (Lyndsey) Olson, Beth (Firat) Kezer, Ana (Richard) Laager, Max, Will, and Emma Anderson; great-nieces, Kira and Madison Olson; and many other relatives and friends.
