Kermit Maidment, 94 of Thief River Falls, MN died on Monday, February 22, 2016 at Villa St. Vincent in Crookston, MN.
Funeral service will be held 10 AM Saturday, February 27, 2016 at St. John Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls, MN, with Reverend Thomas Puffe officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Ecklund-Holmstrom American Legion Post 117, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2793 and Minnesota Army National Guard Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service on Friday, February 26, 2016 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN.
Kermit LeRoy Maidment was born May 10, 1921 in Stone Lake, WI, the son of Charles and Loretta (LaFave) Maidment. He was baptized June 19, 1921. The family moved to Thief River Falls, MN when Kermit was a year old. He attended school in Thief River Falls and graduated from the Crookston Agricultural School. He received refrigeration training in a St. Paul school and then started working for Bridgeman's, in refrigeration, in Thief River Falls.
Kermit enlisted into service with the United States Marine Corps on July 30, 1942. He participated in action against the Japanese on Bougainville, Guam and Okinawa. He was Honorably Discharged on September 15, 1945 and returned to Thief River Falls, MN.
On November 20, 1945, Kermit was united in marriage to Jean Pomereke in Thief River Falls, MN. He was confirmed as Lutheran, March 30, 1947. The couple lived in Thief River Falls for 5 years and then lived in Cloverleaf Township, where they farmed for 20 years. When Kermit began working for Bridgeman's, a division of Land O' Lakes, they moved back into Thief River Falls.
Kermit was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church, a member of VFW, American Legion and Eagles. He served as Cloverleaf Township Supervisor and clerk for 10 years and served on the church board at Zion Lutheran Church in Mavie, MN.
Survivors include three children, Shawn (Wendy) Maidment, Citrus Heights, CA, Melodee (special friend, Jerry Wayne) Brown, Thief River Falls, MN and Terry (Julie) Maidment, Oakdale, MN; 10 grandchildren, Ursella, Pella, Tasha, Ryan, Dustin, Amanda, Heather, Andrea, Colin and Logan; 20 great-grandchildren and one more on the way; and many other relatives and friends.
Kermit is preceded in death by wife, Jean on August 17, 2010; parents; 3 sisters, Eleanore Elvira and Marjorie; 3 brothers, Kenneth, Orville and Ray; and son-in-law, Michael Brown.
