Obituary

Larry Bruggeman passed away Sunday March 9, 2014 at his rural Brooks home surrounded by his loving family. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, March 14, 2014 at 10:30 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brooks, MN with Father Chuck Huck Officiating. Burial will be held at the St. Joseph Cemetery at Brooks, MN. Visitation will be held on Thursday, 5 - 8 PM with a 7:00 PM prayer service at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brooks, MN, and also one hour prior to service on Friday. Larry Joseph Bruggeman was born Dec. 21, 1931 at Jefferson, SD son of the late Frank and Zoe (Derocher) Bruggeman. He was raised in South Dakota and at a young age moved to the Brooks, MN area. He was baptized at a Catholic Church in South Dakota and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brooks. He attended country School riding his horse a few miles from home. Larry farmed with his parents, then moved to Milwaukee, WI for a few years. Larry was drafted in to the US Army and served for two years and was honorably discharged on August 31, 1961. Larry was united in marriage to "Vi" Viola Nurmi at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brooks on October 15, 1955. The couple purchased the family farm where they raised Dairy Cattle, Mink and was known for his "Jet Black Mink" at the time. He worked at Crystal Sugar and Arctic Cat. He hauled milk for the Brooks Cheese Factory and was involved with River Valley Enterprises in the egg industry with the family for a few years. He also enjoyed working at Paquin Potatos for many years, retiring for health reasons in 2012. Larry enjoyed woodworking, making several entertainment centers, gardening, keeping up a large lawn, driving around checking crops. He and Vi went snowmobiling in their younger years with the newly established snowmobile club, "The Moonlighters". He enjoyed deer hunting with his sons and sons-in-law, and getting together with family, holidays, and summer picnics. He loved to attend the grandkids sporting events, he enjoyed coffee drinking buddies in Brooks and Mentor. He enjoyed exchanging prank Christmas gifts with daughter, Lynette and playing double solitaire with daughter, Janell when she was still at home. Larry was always looking out for and was concerned for other people. Larry is survived by his wife of 58 years Vi at Brooks, MN; children Larry Jr. (Special friend Roxanne) of Demming, WA; Kelan of Brooks, MN; Lynette (Richard) Haugen of Thief River Falls, MN; Kris (Special friend Pam) of Brooks, MN; Alan (Rosie) of Oklee, MN; Ross (Valerie) of Terrebonne, MN; Janell (Jay) Pelland of Warroad, MN: 20 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Sister Audrey Lee of Kent, WA; sisters-in-law Vivian Bruggeman of Thief River Falls, MN and Clare Bruggeman of Thief River Falls, MN; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; son Joel; brothers Lloyde, Eugene and Richard; sisters Dorothy Miller and Joyce Iverson; several sisters-in-law and brothers-in law; many uncles and aunts, nephews and nieces.
