Larry Torkelson, age 56, of Thief River Falls, MN died on Sunday, February 12, 2012, at his home in Thief River Falls. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN with Reverend Aaron Zuch officiating. Burial will follow at Clearwater Lutheran Cemetery in Oklee, MN. Visitation will be 5 - 7 PM, Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, with a 7 PM prayer service and for one hour before the service on Thursday. Larry Allen Torkelson was born on October 8, 1955 in Bagley, MN the son of Carl and Mabel (Christianson) Torkelson. As a baby, he was baptized in the Lutheran Faith. Larry attended school in Plummer, MN. On June 20, 1981, Larry was united in marriage to Susan Johnson at Immanual Lutheran Church in Plummer, MN. To this union three children were born, Lucas, Brian, and Lindsy. Larry was confirmed as an adult in 1981 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer, MN Larry worked for his father on his farm, and logging until he became severely injured from a motorcycle accident. Larry's passion was horses. He spent a lot of his time caring for his own horses and taking care of other people's horses. He was a people person who liked to visit with everyone he met. Larry will be remembered as a man with a heart of gold who would go to great lengths to help any of his friends or family. His greatest joy was taking care of his family, no matter what. Larry is survived by his loving wife, Susan, Thief River Falls, MN; children, Lucas Torkelson, Brian Torkelson, and Lindsy Torkelson, all of Thief River Falls, MN; sisters, Arlene (Gary) Anderson, Red Lake Falls, MN, Carla (Ralph) Landman, Red Lake Falls, MN, and Dianne (Jesse) Cassavan, Red Lake Falls, MN; LeRoy Torkelson, Plummer, MN, Carl Torkelson Jr., Plummer, MN, Dean (Joy) Torkelson, Plummer, MN, and Dennis (Angie) Torkelson of Shevlin, MN; brother-in-law, Donald Longtin, Plummer, MN; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Alton and Gerald; sister, Karen Longtin, and nephews, Mark Anderson and Wade Longtin.
