Laura Rustan, 83, died Monday, October 12, 2009 at North Valley Health Center, Warren, MN.

Funeral service will be 11 AM, Friday, October 16, 2009 at Oak Park Lutheran Church, rural Oklee, MN with Reverend Joseph Abrahamson officiating. Interment will be in Oak Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.

Laura Christina Mostrom was born on December 18, 1925 to Gustav and Ida Bertina (Hanson) Mostrom in Hickory Township, Pennington County, MN. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended country school in Deer Park Township.

As a young girl she did domestic work at area homes. She was united in marriage to Elmer William Rustan on February 19, 1944 at the parsonage in Oklee. Shortly after marriage they lived in Red Lake Falls from 1948 to 1951 and then to Minneapolis from 1952 to 1955. They bought a farm in rural Oklee in 1956. She was active in the farm, hauling hay bales, sawing wood, and raising the animals. She cooked at St. Lukes Hospital in Thief River Falls. Laura began working at Oklee Manufacturing in 1966 and then moved to Arctic Cat in Thief River Falls for about 11 years.

Laura was an avid gardener. She raised and canned vegetables for years. She also had a green thumb when it came to growing flowers. She loved to cook and serve meals for her family. She loved to crochet and share her wares with her family. She enjoyed making flat bread and lefse. Her grandkids were important to her and she treasured their visits.

Laura has lived in at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Warren for the past 3 years.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years of marriage, Elmer, 2 children: Errol (Gerri) Rustan, Oklee, MN, Judy (Tim) Munger, Warren, MN, 8 grandchildren: Sam Rustan, Tallahassee, FL, Anna (Steven) Stoll, South St. Paul, MN, Emma Rustan, Duluth, MN, Gustav Rustan, Ames, IA, Clara Rustan, Thief River Falls, MN, Melissa (Jason) Johnson, Grand Forks, ND, Christina Donarski, Argyle, MN, Micah Hamm, Argyle, MN, 7 great grandchildren: Keaten Stoll, Megan Johnson, Tate Johnson, Joshua Hamm, Adrian Hamm, Elijah Donarski, Chase Hamm, 1 brother Ernie (Sammie) Mostrom, Thief River Falls, MN, and many other nieces, nephews, and other relatives, and friends.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers Andrew and Oscar Mostrom, 2 sisters Ella Mostrom, and Mabel Hofstad.
