Laverne Jonesy Jones, 76, died Sunday, April 22, 2007 at Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls, MN.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, April 28, 2007 at St. Bernards Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Monsignor Timothy McGee presiding.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday, April 27 2007 at the chapel of Johnson Funeral Service. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the service.

Laverne Lawrence Jones was born May 4, 1930 in Farson, Iowa the son of Ralph and Dora (Krusemark) Jones. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. He grew up and attended school in Albia, Iowa and graduated from Albia High School in 1948. During his final year in high school Jonesy was accepted by the St. Louis Cardinals Farm Team to play baseball, but instead he enlisted into service with the United States Navy.

Jonesy was a life member of V.F.W. Post 117, American Legion, Post #2793, Elks Lodge #1308, Cooties, National Association of Atomic Veterans, Korean War Veterans Association, Inc.

On March 6, 1953 he married Jo-An Jones in Memphis, TN. To this union two sons were born, Larry and Randy. She died in February of 1959.

On May 2, 1969 he married Joan Joni Wahlbeck in Las Vegas, NV. The couple lived in Albia, Iowa for four years before moving to Thief River Falls in August of 1974. Through the years Jonesy has managed the VFW, the American Legion, and the Elks Clubs in Thief River Falls. He also worked at Family Bowl. Jonesy was currently bar tending part time at the American Legion and the Elks Club.

He enjoyed hunting, golfing and mostly enjoyed being with family and friends. Jonesy was a life member of the VFW Post 2793, American Legion Post 117, Elks Lodge BPOE 1308, Cooties, National Association of Atomic Veterans, and Korean War Veterans Assn.

Survivors include wife, Joni of Thief River Falls; sons, Larry (Karen) Jones of Forestville, CA, Randy (Sandy) Jones of Pensacola, FL, Dane (Jenny) Jones of Bemidji, MN; daughters, Kim (Ron) Kalinoski of Thief River Falls and Becky (Mike) Kaushagen of Thief River Falls; 10 grandchildren, Cheyenne (Adam), Zach, Ben, Layne (Jason), Daniel, Ryan, Nick, Jake, Jenna and Rylie; great granddaughter, Emily; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Jo-An; infant son; infant granddaughter, Brandy; sisters, Helena and Carolyn; brothers, Walter, Warren and Raymond.
