Lavon Walton, age 86, of Thief River Falls, MN, formerly of Middle River, MN, passed away Monday, April 15, 2013 in the presence of loving family at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 20, 2013 at First Lutheran Church, Middle River, MN, followed by interment at the First Lutheran Cemetery in Middle River. The officiating clergy will be Rev. David Peterson. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday at the church. Lavon Dorothy Olson was born in Middle River on November 13, 1926 to John and Signa (Johnson) Olson Koll. She was baptized in the Lutheran Faith, and attended school in Middle River. She lived in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for several months, with her Aunt Anna and cousins. After graduation she worked as a switchboard operator in North Dakota and also for Emil Peterson at the local telephone office. Lavon was united in marriage to Henry Eugene Walton in the summer of 1946; they made their home in Middle River. On September 26, 1963 she began working as a clerk at the Middle River Post Office, and was promoted to Postmaster on June 17, 1978. She retired on January 1, 1987. Lavon was a member of First Lutheran Church, women's WELCA, Hans E. Lian American Legion Auxiliary,where she held membership for 51 years and held numerous unit offices during her membership. She also was a member of Middle River Community Club. In June 1996, Lavon and Henry moved to Thief River Falls, Minnesota where she has since resided. Henry passed away March 21, 2002. Lavon loved to sew and she loved her grandchildren. She sewed a blanket for each of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lavon is survived by a daughter, Lynn Gullikson of Thief River Falls; grandson, Thomas (Bunky) Gullikson of Middle River; grandson, Tony Gullikson and his wife Michelle of Warren; and granddaughter, Kari Walton of Blaine. Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Thomas, Dakota, Hunter, Gracie, Payton, Kinzie, Gavin and two great step-grandchildren, Skylar and Haley. Lavon was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a son, Jeffery Walton and her brother, Orville Olson of Fresno, California.
