Lawrence Hemmesch was born February 26, 1932 in Thief River Falls, MN the son of Theodore and Mary Delphine (Louze) Hemmesch. He was baptized and confirmed in the catholic faith. Lawrence attended St. Bernard's School from kindergarten through the eighth grade and then attended Lincoln High School.
On September 22, 1951, Lawrence was united in marriage to Freda Habedank in Thief River Falls. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls and to this union five children were born, Mary, Mike, Mark, Milo and Mitch.
In his early years, Lawrence drove cab and even delivered a baby one night and also worked as a mover for Ohara Transfer. He hauled fuel for several companies while being a full-time fire fighter for the city of Thief River Falls from March 31, 1960 until his retirement on March 31, 1993. Lawrence loved his job as a firefighter and made many life-long friends throughout his career.
Lawrence enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, family get-togethers, going for a spin in the country and had a passion for telling a good story.
He was a member of the Eagle's Club in Thief River Falls and Teamsters 320.
Survivors include his loving wife of 68 years, Freda; children, Mary (John) Cornille of St. Louis, MO, Michael (Gwen) Hemmesch of Fredericksburg, VA, Mark Hemmesch of Thief River Falls, and Mitchell (Connie) Hemmesch of Thief River Falls; grandchildren, Alisa (Brandon) Wand, Becky (Jeff) Benedict, Sara (John) Mills, Alice (Derrick) Martin, Emily (Ali) Brissette, Amanda Bottom, Marissa Hemmesch, Brock Hemmesch and Jessica (Michael) Andersen; great-grandchildren, Autumn Wand, Avalyn Benedict, September Mills, Cash Mills, Kaeden Brissette, Brooklyn Brissette, Mariah Kenfield, Mikale Kenfield and Jordan Andersen; and many other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; brother, Morris; son, Milo Hemmesch in 2007, and grandson, Matthew Hemmesch.
Lawrence Hemmesch of Thief River Falls, MN passed away peacefully on Monday, October 28, 2019 at Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls, MN at the age of 87 years, 8 months and 2 days. May his memory be blessed.
