Lawrence Michael Norman III died on Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at his home in Thief River Falls, MN.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 3:30 P.M. on Friday, April 28, 2006 at St. Bernards Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Father Tim McGee presiding. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Crookston, MN.
Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 27, 2006 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with a 7:30 P.M. prayer service on Thursday evening and at the church for one hour prior to services on Friday.
Lawrence Michael Norman III was born on May 6, 1944 in Crookston, MN, the son of Lawrence Larry Michael Norman II and Jeanne Delores Scully Norman. He was baptized at the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception in Crookston, confirmed at Our Lady of Victory in Fergus Falls, MN. He attended school at the Cathedral School in Crookston, one year in Fergus Falls, MN and two years at St. Bernards in Thief River Falls. He was chosen class president for 2 years and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1962. L. Michael worked as an OR Tech at Deaconess at Grand Forks, ND from 1962-1964. He attended St. Lukes School of Nursing in Duluth, graduating in 1967, where he served as class president for 2 years. He later attended the school of Anesthesia at St. Michaels Hospital in Grand Forks, ND.
Lawrence received his commission in the Navy and was assigned to the Naval Hospital in Great Lakes, IL for 2 years, where he was an Officer and supervisor. In 1970 he was released from active duty and L. Michael returned to Minnesota and settled in Red Lake Falls and where he worked as a physicians assistant. In 1976-1978 Lawrence attended Loyola University and Mundelein College, both in the Chicago area studying Philosophy and Theology. He moved to Grand Forks and worked at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home and at United Hospital in Emergency Services and Paramedic Education. L. Michael then moved to California and worked in the Intensive Care Units of Lodi Community Hospital, Lodi Memorial Hospital, St. Josephs Hospital and San Joaquin Hospital. While employed in the California Hospitals he taught paramedic education. In December of 1992 he returned to Thief River Falls and has lived here since
He loved his church, music, fishing, and his animals, especially his beloved dog, Mick and his two cats, Sixtus and Benedictus.
L. Michael is survived by three sisters: Connie Schroeder, East Grand Forks, MN, Lynn (Ken) Rolandson, East Grand Forks, MN and Elizabeth Betty (David) Sjostrand, Thief River Falls, MN; one brother, William Norman, East Grand Forks, MN; and several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew Chris Norman and fianc, Michelle Stapelton of Thief River Falls, MN.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1968 and Mom in 1979; grandparents; and godmother, Patricia Ann Romuld.
