Obituary

Lawrence Ring, 91, died on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls, MN.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. John Golv officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls, MN.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

Lawrence Laverne Ring was born on January 28, 1918 in Alexandria, MN, the son of Lars and Elvera (Lydeen) Ring. He attended school in Alexandria and in 1932 the family moved to the Holt, MN area. Lawrence farmed with his father on the family farm until entering the United States Army on June 15, 1942. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. Following his Honorable Discharge on January 11, 1946 he returned to the family farm and farmed until 1964, when his father retired and they moved to Thief River Falls. Lawrence then went to work for Home Lumber Company. He later went to work for the Pennington County Law Enforcement Center, as a custodian, until his retirement.

Lawrence was united in marriage to Genevieve K. Erickson on July 1, 1982 in Alexandria, MN. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls and enjoyed camping and fishing in their retirement. Genevieve passed away in 2002.

Lawrence was a great storyteller and enjoyed visiting with family and friends. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, vegetable gardening, plus some furniture making and repair. He was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church of Holt, MN, and a lifetime member of the VFW. Lawrence moved to Valley Home Assisted Living in 2008.

Lawrence is survived by his sister, Jane Sagmoen of Park Rapids, MN; two foster sisters, Kathleen (Ray) Wagner of Thief River Falls, MN and Dianne (Rick) Czerwan of Mukwonago, WI; niece, Jeneen (Patrick) Klein of Park Rapids, MN; foster nieces, Lorae (Jeff) Johnson of Thief River Falls, MN, Denise (Mark) Dudek and Susan (James) Logue, both of WI; foster nephews, Kent (Kristy) Wagner of Thief River Falls, MN and Kurt (Beth) Wagner of Moorhead, MN; one aunt, Ruth Gahlon of Rochester, MN and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Genevieve, and brother-in-law, Byron Sagmoen.
