Lawrence Waldal, 87, died Monday, May 19, 2003 at Hillcrest Nursing Home, Red Lake Falls, MN.

Funeral service will be 10:30 A.M. on Friday, May 23, 2003 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Plummer, MN with Reverend Gary Graff officiating. Burial will be in Emardville Cemetery, rural Plummer, MN.

Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 22, 2003 at the Johnson Funeral Home in Red Lake Falls, MN with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service on Thursday evening and one hour prior to service at the church on Friday.

Lawrence Waldal was born November 13, 1915 in Emardville Township, near Plummer, MN, the son of Alfred J. and Clara (Olson) Waldal. He attended Country School in Emardville Township.

On November 19, 1936 Lawrence was united in marriage to Selma Emma Tranby in Red Lake Falls, MN. They farmed near Plummer for a time. They also managed a Mink Farm near Plummer and Lawrence worked in the Logging Camps. He also worked construction so the couple lived in various places, returning to Plummer. Lawrence was a Heavy Equipment Mechanic most of his life. The couple owned and operated an Auto Garage and Auto Sales in Plummer and he farmed with his daughter, Betty in the later years.

Lawrence enjoyed eating out and spending time with his family. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer.

Lawrence is survived by 7 children: Melvin (Barbara) Waldal of Palmer, Alaska, Harold (Beverly) Waldal of Surprise, AZ, Joyce (Jim) Kalbakdalen of Red Lake Falls, MN, Ronald Waldal of Plummer, MN, Betty (Oscar) Degelder of Plummer, MN, Larry (Lana) Waldal of Bemidji, MN and Kenneth (Judy) Waldal of Antioch, IL; special friend, Thelma Bendickson of Thief River Falls, MN; 19 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; five sisters: Marie Seeger of Red Lake Falls, MN, Beatrice (Clayton) Larson of Plummer, MN, Rosella (Kenneth) McDonald of Gary, Indiana, Helen (Wayne) Ober of Flat Rock, Michigan and Carolyn (Wes) Myhre of Brooks, MN; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his wife, Emma on July 31, 1996; daughter, Barbara Rau; grandson, Jon Waldal; his parents; brothers and sisters: Selma Waldal, Clara Auch and James Waldal and Alvin Waldal.
