Obituary

Lee Halvorson of Plummer, MN age 75 died on Sunday, January 3, 2016 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND with her family at her side, following a broken hip surgery and stroke.

Funeral service to celebrate Lee's life will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer, MN with Rev. Jonathan Dodson officiating. Burial will follow at Clearwater Cemetery north of Plummer, MN.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a 6:30 PM time of sharing on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Visitation will also be held from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Lee Ione Thomson was born on May 8, 1940 in Devils Lake, ND the daughter of Floyd and Isabel (Stewart) Thomson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. Lee attended country school and graduated from Crary High School in the class of 1958.

On April 8, 1961, Lee was united in marriage to James Zimpel at the Presbyterian Church in Devils Lake, ND. To this union one daughter, Sandra was born. The family made their home in Red Lake Falls, MN for a short time before moving to Plummer, MN in the early 1960's.

Lee worked with her husband, James on their mink farm and also worked at Red Lake Electric at this time.

On January 20, 1973, Lee was united in marriage to Delano Halvorson at the Presbyterian Church in Plummer, MN. Together they owned and operated a dairy farm near Plummer and also at this time, Lee worked at the Plummer State Bank.

In September of 1989, Lee started working at Digi-Key in Thief River Falls before retiring on December 2, 2015. Lee enjoyed her 26 years at Digi-Key and cherished her friendships with her co-workers.

She was a member of the Plummer American Legion Auxiliary. Lee loved her daughter, Sandy, favorite son-in-law, Larry, her grandchildren, and her cat, Hans. She was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan and NDSU Bison fan. Lee enjoyed cross-stitching, listening to country music, especially Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash and Elvis, and collecting. Lee was a kind, caring, big-hearted friend to all.

Survivors include her daughter, Sandy (Larry) Rohlf of Thief River Falls, MN; grandson, Derek Gustafson of Minneapolis, MN; granddaughter, Jessica (Nicholas) Fernholz of Fargo, ND; step-grandson, Lucas Rohlf of Portland, OR; mother, Isabel Thomson (age 101) of Devils Lake, ND; sister, Glenna Schwab of Devils Lake, ND; brother, Terry (Diane) Thomson of Doyon, ND; sister, Lois (Clark) Steinhaus of Devils Lake, ND; dear friend, Arlene Zimpel of Plummer; many nieces and nephews; and her cat, Hans, who now resides at Quick Print with Larry.

She is preceded in death by husband, Delano; father, Floyd; mother-in-law, Lillie Halvorson; and sister-in-law, Arlene Thomson.
