Leo Bendel, 87, of Red Lake Falls, MN died on Sunday, May 20, 2001 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls, MN. Arrangements with Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls, MN.

Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2001 at 2:00 PM in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls with Father Tim Bushy Officiating. Burial will be held in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Wednesday only.

Leo Adam Bendel was born March 3, 1914 at Leo, MN son of John Sr. and Mary (Brown) Bendel. He moved as an infant to Red Lake Falls, MN with his family. Leo was educated at St. Joseph Catholic School in Red Lake Falls. Leo entered the US Navy and served during WWII being honorable discharged on November 24, 1945. On December 29, 1947 he was married to Agnes Josephine Berg at St. Marys Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls. The couple lived in Red Lake Falls all of their lives where Leo worked as a self employed plumber for 30 years. Josephine passed away on January 23, 2000 and Leo has resided at Hillcrest Nursing home since that time.
Leo was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN; the American Legion post in Red Lake Falls and the VFW. He also served as a volunteer fireman for 20 years.
Leo is survived by his sister Florence Miller of Red Lake Falls, MN; sister in law Anne Bendel of Red Lake Falls, MN. Several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife Josephine Bendel, brothers Clarence, Joseph, Carl, Balsey and John Jr.; sisters Frances Constant, Mary Fitzgerald, Sabina Remick and Clara Bendel.
