Obituary

Leona Mae Kappedal 67 of rural Plummer, MN died on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at 2:00 PM in Johnson Funeral Service in Red Lake Falls, MN with Reverend Jonathan Dodson Officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services on Wednesday only. Burial will be held in the spring at Emardville Cemetery Plummer, MN. Leona Mae Kappedal was born August 19, 1945 at Dickenson, ND daughter of the late Daniel and Beulah (Payne) Berger. She attended school at Marmoth, ND and also Grassy Butte, ND. She moved with her family to Plummer, MN, and then she moved to Thief River Falls where she worked at Valley Home as an aid and also for the ODC. On March 2nd, 1976 she was united in marriage to Laverne Eugene Kappedal at St. John Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls, MN. The couple moved to Sioux Falls, SD where they lived for 8 years and she was employed at the Ramada Inn. They moved back to Plummer for a short time then moved to Thief River Falls where they lived from 1984 until 1992 when they moved to a home near Plummer where they have since resided. Leona enjoyed plants, flowers, gardening and canning, going on little trips and spending time at the casino. Leona is survived by her husband Laverne Kappedal of Plummer, MN and her aunt Helen LaFayette of Red Lake Falls, MN; brother-in-law Gordon Kappedal of Minneapolis and sisters-in-law Judy (Don) Secory of Gilbert, AZ and Lorraine (Bob) Phillips of Clear Lake, Iowa. She is preceded in death by her parents, Step father Alfred Sunden, Aunt Muriel Krieger and Uncle Bob Krieger. Condolences may be made at www.johnsonfuneralservice.com
