Leonard A. Johnson, 93, of Goodridge, MN died peacefully on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at Ecumen Communities in Detroit Lakes, MN.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at Ekelund Lutheran Church near Goodridge, MN with Rev. Robert Dahlen officiating. Burial will be at the Ekelund Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until time of services.

Leonard Alfred Johnson was born on September 4, 1922 on the family farm in Star Township, the same farm he lived his life and his father homesteaded. He was the son of Ludvig and Ida (Jorde) Johnson. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith at Little Oak School and confirmed there as well. Leonard attended Clovernook School District 14. After school, Leonard stayed home and worked on the family farm. He also worked in North Dakota, picking potatoes in the fall and worked on the Iron Range, helping build the Gunflint Trail.

Leonard met Bernice Kjelgren at a dance in Highlanding, MN and they eventually married on January 3, 1948 at the parsonage in Goodridge, MN by Reverend Bjorgan; with Erling and Ella Dahlen as wedding attendants. The couple made their home on the Johnson family farm in rural Goodridge, MN and to this union 5 children were born, Richard, James, Patricia, Curtis and Robert. They ran a diverse farm operation.

He was a member of Ekelund Lutheran Church, rural Goodridge, MN. Leonard enjoyed trapping, hunting, and especially loved farming and life on the farm.

Survivors include his loving wife, Bernice of Detroit Lakes, MN; children, Richard (Sandra) Johnson of Fosston, MN, James (Joy) Johnson of Fairmont, MN, Patricia (Michael) Gwynn of Apache Junction, AZ, Curtis Johnson of Detroit Lakes, MN and Robert (Jeanne) Johnson of Baxter, MN; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; along with many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law, Karen Johnson; and siblings, Myrtle Kuntz, Gladys Langwost, Louise Quirk, Bennie Johnson, Carl Johnson and Hazel Huot.
