Leonard Peterson, 83, of Plummer, MN died on Monday, April 26, 1999 at Pioneer Memorial Home in Erskine, MN.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, may 1, 1999 at 11:00 AM in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer, MN with Reverend Clarence Johnson Officiating. Burial will be held in the Emardville Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 5 " 8 PM with a 7:00 prayer service at the Petterson Funeral home in Red Lake Falls and also one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Leonard Peterson was born March 2, 1916 in Viking, MN son of Harry and Viola (Halvorson) Peterson. He was raised and attended school there. Leonard married Mildred Johnson on January 25, 1941 in International Falls, MN where he lived and worked in the Logging industry. Leonard entered the US Army on November 12, 1942 and served until his honorable discharge on October 30, 1945. He was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart. In 1950 he moved to Plummer, MN. Leonard farmed near Plummer and worked at the Air Force Base in Minot, ND. He was married to Bernice (Marsonette) Engesether on November 15, 1963 in Plummer, MN. The last years he worked at Detroiter Mobil Home in Red Lake Falls. The couple lived on their farm until retiring in 1979 and moving into Plummer. He entered the Pioneer Memorial Home in Erskine in June of 1996. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and camping.
Leonard is survived by his wife Bernice of Plummer, MN: children Lorna Jesme (Merle) of Plummer, MN; Janet Torkelson (Duane) of South Milwaukee, WI; Milton Peterson (Janice) of Plummer, MN; Allan Peterson (Special friend Mary) of Blaine, MN; June Versdahl (Norman) of Winger, MN; Gerald Engesether of Burkburnett, TX; Marvin Engesether (Judy) of Plummer, MN; LeRoy Engesether of Bemidji, MN, Robert Engesether (Chris) of Fridley, MN and Sharon Laniel (Special friend Todd) of Denver, CO: 32 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson. Sisters Eileen Belch (John) of Tigard, OR and Lynor Mortensen of New Richland, MN. Also several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Mildred, brothers Glen Peterson and Vernon Peterson, grandchild Allan Engesether and two sons in law John Laniel and Rus Huotari.
