Leonard Waswick of Viking, MN, age 79, died on Wednesday March 18, 2015 at his residence at Viking, MN The service to Celebrate the Life of Leonard will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at Oak Ridge Lutheran Church, 14376 180th Street NE, Thief River Falls, MN with Dale Knotek and Christopher Leach officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 at Viking Lutheran Church Cemetery, west of Colfax, ND on 65th Street. Leonard Mellean Waswick was born on August 24, 1935 in Sioux Falls, SD the son of Earl Mellean and Jeannette M. (Egge) Waswick. He was baptized on September 22, 1935 at East Side Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD. Leonard graduated from high school in Wyndmere, ND in 1953 and graduated in the Agriculture Economics at NDSU in Fargo, ND. Leonard entered into service with the United States Marine Corps on April 3, 1957. He was based at El Toro Marine Base in California and was Honorably Discharged on January 5, 1960. On July 18, 1958, Leonard was united in marriage to Carol Benz at Richland Lutheran Church in Walcott, ND. To this union six children were born, Celeste, Deanne, Mark, Lynette, Paul and Steven. They made their home in Orange County, CA for about three years, then to rural Colfax, ND where they lived until they moved to the Fargo/Moorhead area in the fall of 1964. The family purchased a farm in Numedal Township, Pennington County, MN rural Thief River Falls in 1969 where they raised small grains, beef cattle and hogs. Leonard farmed with his family while in Colfax. He worked at Silverline Boats in Moorhead and in 1969 started working at Arctic Cat in Thief River Falls along with his farming. In 1986 started working at Marvin Windows in Warroad where he retired. He enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, spending time with kids, grandkids, reunions, and auction sales. He also enjoyed coffee and conversation at Petro Pumper. Leonard was a member of Oak Ridge Lutheran Church. Survivors include his children, Celeste (Roger) Hoffman, Deanne (Dan) Skogen, Mark Waswick, Lynette (Bryan) Kirkland, Paul (Lawni) Waswick, Steven (Sheryell) Waswick; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Eileen (Eugene) Meslow; brother, Harold (Geneva) Waswick; sister-in-law, Connie Waswick; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, Jeannette; father, Earl; brother, Arthur; infant nephew, Theodore; and nephew, Corwin.
