Leroy Skjerven, 89 of Plummer, MN passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at Oakland Park Communities in Thief River Falls, MN.

The Memorial Service to celebrate Leroy's life will be held at 1:00 PM Sunday, August 7, 2022 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer, MN, with Reverend Jonathan Dodson officiating. Burial will be at Emardville Cemetery, Plummer, MN. Military honors will be provided by the Plummer American Legion Post 623 Honor Guard.

Leroy Otto Skjerven was born on April 29, 1932 in Park River, ND, the son of John and Alice (Hanson) Skjerven. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Park River, ND. Leroy attended school in Park River, ND.

On December 2, 1952, Leroy was drafted into the United States Army. He was stationed in Fort Knox, KY and was a tank mechanic. He was Honorably Discharged on December 1, 1954.

Leroy worked as a grain and dairy farmer and was a provider of Artificial Insemination.  In his free time enjoyed playing guitar. He also loved making multiple trips into Plummer for coffee with friends, even if he had to drive his tractor!

Leroy was never married but enjoyed his brothers and sisters and their families, especially visits from his niece and nephews. He was always their "Uncle Stoney" and, as children, would readily find chores for them to do around the farm. Stoney also cared for his many animals naming them with unique names such as Matilda and Bertina being among the favorites. Leroy had a dry wit, could tease you mercilessly, and his blue eyes would sparkle when he made you laugh. He was proud to walk two of his nieces down the aisle – even conceding to wear a suit and tie.

He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church and the American Legion Club of Plummer.

Leroy is survived by his siblings, Gayle Skjerven Peterson, Donald (Nancy) Skjerven and John (Margaret) Skjerven; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Alice (Hanson) Skjerven; grandparents; Hakon & Eliza Skjerven and Olaf & Hilda Hanson; sister, Jean Skjerven McCrary; brothers and sisters-in-law, Roger (Charlotte "Pollie") Skjerven and Jerome (Emilie) Skjerven; and brother-in-law, James Peterson.
