Lillian Bernice Samuelson was born December 6, 1920 in Thief River Falls, MN, the daughter of Olaf and Mary (Lien) Samuelson.  Lillian was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1938.

On December 6, 1945 Lillian was united in marriage to Edward O. Holmstrom in Thief River Falls.  With the love and support of her children, Lillian has been fortunate enough to live in the same house where she and Ed made their home and raised their family.

Her first job was at the Avalon Movie Theatre in Thief River Falls.  Later during World War II, she was employed with Kansas City Munitions.  After the children were grown, she was employed with Falls Theatre and Pamida in Thief River Falls.

She enjoyed music, dancing, bowling, playing cards, and writing letters. Lil & Ed loved camping with their children and in later years they took their grandchildren, nieces and nephews camping too. Lillian loved crafting and always had a project to include the grandkids. Baking was a favorite for Lillian and most of her granddaughters, along with great granddaughter Haley, were fortunate in learning to bake buns from grandma Lil. Upon retiring, Ed & Lil bought a place in Arizona and Lillian spent each winter there until 2014. Gardening was another favorite and she enjoyed her yard and garden in Thief River and was busy planting in Arizona too, along with making new friends there.

Family and friends were very important to her and she loved family get-togethers and visits. Later in life, Lillian made a weekly schedule to visit and care for those family members and friends who were sick or in nursing homes; she was always ready to give a helping hand.

Survived by a son: Timothy (Linda) Holmstrom, Grand Forks, ND and daughters: Jill (Jerry) Altendorf, Thief River Falls, MN and Kathy Holmstrom, Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren: Trisha, Timothy II, Heather, Jeremy, Nichole, Kristy, Jenny A., Jenny O. and Jessica; great-grandchildren: Audrie, Haley, Autumn, Quinten, Josie, Blaine, Bailey, Madison, Chase, Bridger, Trevor, Trenton, Jeraldine, Jocelin, Kylee, Logan, Charlie and Jaegar; great great-grandchildren: Madilyn and Abigail; sisters: Avis Freed of Oak Park, IL, Joyce Pyrtle of Bella Vista, AR, and Jean Brandon of Middle River, MN; along with many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by parents; 4 brothers: James, Virgil, Lloyd and Robert; 2 sisters: Ila and Evelyn.

The family would like to thank the Hospice of Red River Valley for their loving care and support to Lillian. Memorials are suggested to the Hospice of Red River Valley.
