On May 25, 1949, Linda was born to Lyle and Elvira (Oberdick) Degroat, in Callaway, MN. She was one of the fifteen siblings in the Degroat clan; family was always important. She attended school at Detroit Lakes and graduated in 1967. She attended art school in Minneapolis, MN, and cosmetology in Thief River Falls, MN. She met Elton while in school and after he replaced her mom's furnace she decided to marry him.
They were married on June 15, 1968, in Callaway, MN. For a time, they lived in Seattle, where Melinda was born but returned to Thief River Falls to raise their family. As they built their own farm on the Hornseth homestead, Todd was born and later Jesse.
During this time, Linda was a homemaker, wife, and active in the community. Whether working as an occupational therapist, cooking for the school district, or voluntering for the church she found time for tea. Being a passionate collector of art, she also enjoyed creating her own. Collecting vintage clothing and jewelry lead her to displaying her collections at pioneer shows in the area. However, WMSTR at Rollag was her favorite place to show her collection.
Linda is survived by her children: Melinda (Neal) Helle, Thief River Falls, Todd (Mary) Hornseth, Prairie Du Chien, WI, and Jesse Hornseth, Thief River Falls; grandchildren: Stephen (Alyssa) Sorenson, Joshua Sorenson, Connor Helle, Brooke (Patrick) Larson, Maryn Hornseth, Jonah Hornseth, and Grace Hornseth; great-grandchildren: Miles Larson and Clara Sorenson; siblings: Doris (Tom) Straw, Geneva (Ray) Geweke, Angeline "Angie" (Chet) Boen, Caroline "Carrie" (Don) Nicholson, Edith (Byron) Huseby, Darlene (Larry) Hynding, and Danniel Degroat; and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
She preceded in death by her husband, Elton, parents, Lyle and Elvira Degroat, baby, Michael, grandchild, Matthew, siblings: Floretta Swetland, Summery "Bud" Degroat, Willis "Woody" Degroat, Gloria Kuehl, Lyle Jr. Degroat, Timothy Degroat, Terry Degroat, and baby, Cindy Degroat.
