Obituary

Lloyd O. Lund Thief River Falls, MN, 94, died Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis, MN with his loving family at his side. The funeral service for Lloyd Lund will be at 10:30 AM on Monday, November 4, 2013 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Robert Dahlen officiating. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Ecklund-Holmstrom Post #117 and the Veterans Of Foreign Wars Post #2793. Visitation will be held 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM with a prayer service at 5:00 PM on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN. Lloyd Orbin Lund was born October 25, 1919, the son of Frank and Alice (Haugan) Lund. He attended school in Highlanding, MN and also attended the Agricultural College in Crookston, MN from which he graduated. Lloyd loved to play sports, especially football and hockey. While at the University of Minnesota, Crookston, Lloyd and one of his teammates convinced the athletic director to start a hockey team. Lloyd "Pug" Lund, the Aggies' first captain, scored the first ever goal in the season opener against Grand Forks Central High School. Following school, Lloyd entered into service with the United States Army Air Force. He served in Texas, graduated with the class of 45-B on April 15, 1945 at Pampa Air Field in Pampa, TX. Lloyd came out as a Flight Officer. He was honorably discharged. Lloyd was found to be properly qualified to exercise the privileges of a commercial pilot. On March 17, 1942 Lloyd was united in marriage to Helen Adolphson in Nashville, TN. Lloyd and Helen traveled extensively throughout the United States with Lloyd's construction work. Lloyd worked as a heavy equipment operator, working with cranes and shovels. His work took him all over the world, including the West Indies, Greenland and the Alaskan Highway. He held membership with the International Union of Operating Engineers since 1942, the Ecklund-Holmstrom American Legion Post #117 for 63 years, the Civil Air Patrol since 1953, Eagles Club, Elks Club for 63 years, Masons, and Shriners all in Thief River Falls; and he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include numerous nephews and nieces; great nieces and great nephews; great-great nieces and great-great nephews; and many other cousins, relatives and friends. Lloyd is preceded in death by wife, Helen on December 25, 2001; parents; brothers, George and Dennis; a sister, Alverda Noel; and a sister in infancy.
