Obituary

Lloyd Philion, 92, died on Friday, January 16, 2009 at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls, MN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM, Monday, January 19, 2009 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN with Father Gerald Noesen presiding. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Red Lake Falls, MN with military honors provided by members of the Red Lake Falls American Legion Post. Everyone is invited to the American Legion in Red Lake Falls for a time of lunch and fellowship following the burial.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Monday.

Lloyd Adrian Philion was born August 1, 1916 in Red Lake Falls, MN the son of William and Eugenie (Chatel) Philion. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, MN and attended grade school at St. Joseph Catholic School. Lloyd graduated from Lafayette High School in Red Lake Falls in 1935.

Following graduation, Lloyd worked several jobs in the Red Lake Falls area, including hauling milk, working for the railroad and delivered the Minneapolis Star Tribune. On November 21, 1939 he was united in marriage to Elenore Nelson and to this union there were five children born: Sharon, Michelle, William, Robert and Steven.

On April 20, 1944 Lloyd entered into service with the United States Army Air Force and was Honorably Discharged on November 20, 1945. Following his Honorable Discharge, Lloyd returned to Red Lake County where he worked as a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service for 40 years. He also farmed near Terrebonne for 50 years.

On June 12, 1981 Lloyd was united in marriage to Irene (Demarais) MacDonald at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston, MN. Irene brought her seven children and their families to this relationship: Rod, Kathy, Mike, Ken, Mary, Dave, and Tom.

Lloyd enjoyed trapping, golf, playing cards, and gardening; and in his younger years enjoyed traveling. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion Post in Red Lake Falls, and was also a member of the rural Mail Carriers Association.

Survivors include his loving wife of 27 years, Irene Philion of Red Lake Falls; children, Sharon (Jerome) Lizotte of Red Lake Falls, Michelle (Cedric) Schluter of Le Sueur, MN, William (Karen) Philion of Minot, ND, Robert (Sharon) Philion of Red Lake Falls, and Steven (Beverly) Philion of Red Lake Falls; 14 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Rita Doebele of Elyria, OH; and many other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Lawrence & Leonard; grandson, David Schluter; and grandson-in-law, Caley Cox.
