LORRAINE IVETTE BROTEN, age 82, of Newfolden, MN died on November 13, 2013 at NorthRidge Care Center in New Hope, MN surrounded by her family. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at New Hope Lutheran Church in Newfolden, MN at 2:00 pm with a visitation one hour prior at the church. The Reverend Ollie Urdahl will be officiating. Johnson Funeral Service of Thief River Falls, MN is making arrangements for the family. Lorraine Ivette (Hagen) Broten was born into this world on October 10, 1931, to Ingvald and Lillian (Anderson) Hagen at Kennedy, MN. She was baptized at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Greenbush, MN on November 12, 1931 by Reverend Kluner. Lorraine was confirmed at Maria Lutheran Church in Kennedy, MN on May 19, 1946. Lorraine Broten is a member of New Hope Lutheran Church. After graduating from high school in 1949, Lorraine attended teacher's training at Warren, MN. In the fall of 1950, she taught country school near Stephen, MN for 2 years. Lorraine was united in marriage to Omer Broten of Argyle, MN on October 24th, 1952 at Greenbush. After their marriage, Omer and Lorraine lived in Foldahl Township where they farmed until 1971 when they moved the family to Marsh Grove Township rural Newfolden where they also farmed. Omer and Lorraine were blessed with three children, Cheryl, Colleen and Alan. On March 31,1986, Lorraine's husband Omer tragically passed away due to a farm accident. In December 1987, Lorraine moved to Newfolden, MN and worked at the New Moon Cafe for four years and then began cooking at the Senior Meal Center for ten years before retiring in 2006. Lorraine is survived by daughters Cheryl (married to Byron Stokke) of McGregor, MN, Colleen (married to Robert Leach) of Woodbury, MN; siblings Ivan (Ann) Hagen, Joyce (Paul) Host, Dwight Hagen, Delmont (Margaret) Hagen; six grandchildren, Christopher (Jennifer Jackson), Kara (Jeff Hillman), Kevin and Craig Stokke, Christopher (Ana Heath) Leach and Jameson Leach; seven great grandchildren; brother-in-law Chuck Scheid; three sisters-in-law, Dee Hagen, Helen Schantzen and Sylvia (Dennis) Pedersen; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents; husband Omer Broten; son Alan Broten; two brothers Gordon Hagen and Ronald Hagen; and two sisters Eldeen Mundy and Patty Scheid.
