Lorraine Groven, 85, died Monday March 3, 2008 at her home in rural Goodridge, MN.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 8, 2008, at Faith Lutheran Church, Goodridge, MN with Rev. Bob Dahlen officiating. Burial will follow in the Valle Cemetery, Oklee, MN.

Visitation will be 5-8 Friday, March 7, 2008 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, MN with a Prayer Service at 7:00 PM. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Saturday.

Lorraine Frances Nelson was born March 11, 1922 to Thomas and Edna (Thorpe) Nelson at home in rural Oklee, MN. She was eldest child of 12. She baptized at the parsonage in Oklee. She was also confirmed at Oklee by Rev. J.K. Lerol. She attended school in Oklee.

Lorraine was united in marriage on December 9, 1938 to Bennie G. Groven in Oklee. They made their home near Telemarken Church for many years, Oklee for a short time, before they moved to Highlanding in 1950. Lorraine worked at Northwestern Hospital in Thief River Falls for 30 years.

Lorraine was faithfully active in taking care of the animals on the farm. Everyday she would help feed the cattle, rabbits, cats and the dogs. She was a member of the Telemarken Church, where she was active with the ladies aid and church activities. After Telemarken closed she would attend Faith Church in Goodridge and found it important to be there for communion Sunday. Lorraine liked to play cards, including smear and whist, but rummy was her favorite. She liked to read and keep up on current events. She helped babysit her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lorraine maintained her own yard and was fussy about how it was mowed. She enjoyed cooking and made sure during deer camp that there was plenty of cookies. She always made flat bread for the family.

She is survived by two sons, Sherman (Jean) Groven, Goodridge, MN, Eldon (Fern) Groven, Elk River, MN, 5 grandchildren: Scott (Nichole) Groven, Argyle, MN, Shawn (Roseline) Groven, Goodridge, MN, Sonya (Christian) Delle Fave, Chula Vista, CA, Rebecca (Robert) Whittemore, Isanti, MN, Brian (Sarah) Groven, Pine Island, MN, 12 great grandchildren, Benjamin, Katerina, Nicholas, Sebestian, Madelyn, Katelyn, Brandon, Lori, Nathan, Kyle, Cole, and Connor, 5 brothers, Wallace (Doris) Nelson, Brooks, MN, Norman (Ione) Nelson, Oklee, MN, Ordean Nelson, Trail, MN, Sidney (Eileen) Nelson, Moorhead, MN, Russell (Marilyn) Nelson, Fisher, MN, 2 sisters, Verona (George) Gardner, Grand Forks, ND, Judy (David) Lundeen, Red Lake Falls, MN.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband Bennie in 1967, her parents, 2 brothers, Vernon and Jerry Nelson, 2 sisters, Lila Johnson, Shirley Dahle. She was preceded in death by her companion of many years Kenny Lessard.
